Camping Ideas and Tips

Bucket full of water and a wet towel over the top works well, always has and always will.
I drink ale, it isn’t meant to be served at fridge temperature.

Me too. If a beer is only drinkable when it’s chilled to the point you can’t actually taste it then you have to ask yourself whether you want to be drinking it in the first place…

What if you are wearing the flip-flops?
Lol. .

Flip flops should be banned from all campsites and festivals imho..

Hold on, not true... they fine for the women.

Men should be wearing . . . . boots, welly boots, rigger boots, any other type of boots.... unless they wearing sports trainers....

Or crocks....

Or sketchers.....

Note: these are my personal views and not that of the forum, the management or the missus....

Lol.... crying with laughter right now.

A Cracking USB power pack - Keep your kit charged.

Everything these days is USB and having a way to charge you kit on the move make life easier.

this is a great little power pack.

the added SOC % gauge is a nice addition.

we take about 5x of these type of power packs away with us. ( we have one each and use them on everything)

it even got to the point the other week we were handing them out all over the campsite to people with flat phones that were borrowing them for a quick charge . . . !!

This is the latest addition and passes all the tests with flying colours. - ill be getting a second one soon.

its also the unit that run the Disco light above.

Get Showered - Get Dressed.

this was a new one for me . .

i actually first see this thing in 2019 when @Lord Mfwic was seen rocking one at T6F summer camp . . . mooching around in the morning, chilling, being used as a dressing gown type thing.

moving forwards to 2021 and Camper Site - we saw them again . . . this time being used differently.

The idea was to use them with the shower block.

1 - go to shower block wearing last nights minging beer & curry soiled clothes
2- make sure you have your Crocs or sliders on!
3- get undressed in shower keeping the Crocs/sliders on so you keep off the manky floor
4- take nice refreshing shower
5- get out shower on put on bath robe - walk back to camp ( no messing about trying to get dry or dressed)
6- get dressed at your leisure.

these things are great. The benefits are that:
you dont need to take your nice clean clothes over to the wash block and end up dropping them of the floor.
or getting them wet in the tiny shower cubical,
or risk falling over when trying to get dressed,
or risk showing everyone your Toshie when you bend over in the shower block at Campersite21 and your butt pops the doors open !

these are the ones we have . .

They has a zipped pocket on the side for your phone . . . .

and a open pocket on the other side so you can get to a belt or buckel etc.

they also have a large hood.

Windbreak - Washing line Hack . . .

weve upgraded to Team #Jormax windbreaks and just love them.

we first see them at 2019 T6F summer camp, with @Sammy demo-ing the setup beautifully.

two years later we have managed to get our own.

as windbreaks they are very good, not needing guy lines and are very sturdy . . . but have come with added benefits we didn't expect before.

because the windbreaks have ALU bracing poles that go across the top, they work great as a washing line! - for hanging up you wet/damp stuff

the upper section on out Jormax panels are mesh so the air can get to the stuff you have hanging about and get it dry.

any as they are a Vinyl material they are waterproof and easy to clean / wash down.

this is our 3 and 4 panel windbreaks setout as a long wall with a staggered gap in the middle. This was used to stop the opposite families 5 kids from kicking their footballs into the middle of out camp every 30 seconds.

1630654561343.png

and this is what happened by the next day . . . .

1630654626626.png1630654665200.png

we used the plastic sping clamps as clothes-pegs. . .

1630654737409.png1630654767956.png

this is @Sammy setup . . again used as a 3 and 4 panel with an offset opening.

@Dellmassive It’s tough being a trend setter.
They are great and work exactly as described. I take mine with me every time I go camping.

Get you Light On - !

We have the Kampa Flex Sabre Light system in out tent which is great . .

Kampa had pre-sewn in velco strips on the air-beams - that the LED lights just stick too . . . plug in and off you go. - brilliant thinking.

moving forwards we got an additional front porch for the tent and wanted to add some more lights . .

unfortunately Kampa had sold up and is now owned by Dometic . . . who has dropped a lot of the range . . Dometic Group | Dometic

1630656231865.png

this meant i couldn't get any more additional lights . .

Moving on it looks like Vango has stepped in to fill the gap,

they have produced a very similar kit . . . .

they do two versions, one 240v mains powered . . . and a USB version

They also do two sizes . . . a 2 meter and 4 meter version.

we got two of the 2m USB versions and run them off the USB power back.

they are powered via USB and come with a remote control to switch them on/off/dimmer - they are brilliant.

the kit comes with velco loops . . . . but we just used the plastic clips and clipped them to the tent/awning/gasebo etc

  • Flexible LED Lighting Strips - Attached using the Vango Sky Track System or hook and loop attachment provided
  • Remote Control - Allows you to adjust the brightness easily
  • Hook and Loop Ties - Included for additional attachment
  • IP67 Rated Lights - Protected from dust and capable of withstanding water immersion between 15 cm and 1 metre for 30 minutes
  • LED Lights - 120 LEDs producing 1500 lumens create a warm and bright lighting effect

this is the 4M USB version . .

1630656675865.png

this is the mains version .. .

this is out 2M USB version clipped to the front of the Tent porch . .

they are very bright at night so we normally run them dimmed down to 10% or 20%. - which makes them last longer too.

we plan to use one or both of these at the next meet to light up the AIR Gazebo.

OFF Grid Heating. . . .

this is more for tent and awning dweller . . but ill show it anyway.

late in the summer, start of autumn it starts to get cold a night.

so its time to fire up the heater . . . being on hook up (EHU) makes things easy.

we have one of these little gems.

two settings 500w & 1000w
tip over protection
oscillating,
nice and small.

1630657694792.png

this unit is similar . .

1630658786880.png

the good old oil filled rad is also popular. . . like this 650w unit.

1630658862605.png

but moving back to OFF Grid . . . things can be more challenging.

Gas is the way to go when it comes down to heating, either water, air or food - Gas is the most economical.

we have one of these small Gas heaters.

Remember GAS stoves/heaters give of Carbon Dioxide and use up Oxygen in the air . . . so they need to be used in a ventilated space.

its a kinda oxymoron that you need to open a window/door to let air in but keep the warm in too.

we use them for 5mins at night before going to bed . . . to warm up the space, then switch off for the night so safe.

or out in the porch, awning for general radiated heat.

1630659364965.png

its similar to this design . . they run on the same Butane gas cans that the mini stoves run on.

1630659401393.png1630659439396.png

last year we went for the upgrade . .

This time for the Heater Buddy - the Best you can get apparently.

i had to import it from the USA, but its started to filter into the UK market now.

1630659564799.png

they run on these Green Propane 1lb cans . .

which I've found out can be pricey . . . but you can run them from bottled gas too.

1630659625801.png

for this year if found the Gas Can Hack that lets you use standard Coleman C500 EN417 style cans (that are much cheaper)

we got this adapter,

it screws onto the C500 gas can can . . . but has an internal safety valve that stops the can from venting.

this can then be safely screwed on the the heater buddy and used like normal.

edit:

gas for these can be seen here:

  • x6 propane/butane mix gas cartridges
  • Screw on gas cartridge
  • Coleman double safety seal valve
  • Ideal for camping stoves and lanterns

Cold Bed ?

again more of a Tent Hack. . . . but can be used in a van.

we have these foil insulation sheets/mats . . .

we put them on the floor . . .
then the carpet mat over the top . .
then the AIR Bed on top.

it has the effect of blocking any cold from rising from the floor over night

and has the added benefit of stopping you loosing any heat downwards . .

1630660461875.png1630660521208.png1630660531181.png

here you can see the Airbed, sheet, blanket . .

which is sitting on a Decathlon Bedroom camping carpet.

which is sitting on the Foil matt.
