I paid £465 inc VAT at my local Autobarn last week. Seems to be the average price for VW Specialist using VW parts.

I got it cheaper than that in Sussex.... but it don't help @Firthster up in Manchester and he has booked in with V W now ...

i used this place last week for timing belt change cost was 500 pounds now ,nice clean work shop father and son workshop ,they will only take in a small amount of work on so that they are not in a rush to finish the job. i thought they took lot of care and pride in their work

Are people doing the aux‘ belt and tensioner at the same time as the timing belt kit and water pump?

Alternator and AC drive (if AC equipped).
It has to be removed to do the timing belt kit and water pump job, no extra labour.
In addition if Bluemotion check the alternator free wheel pulley bearing while the aux belt is off.
There are quite a few different timing belt (cam belt) discussions on this Forum, a broken aux belt has been known to foul the timing belt crank pulley and wreck the engine.
A failed alternator pulley bearing or aux belt tensioner may cause the aux belt to break.
It’s a case of looking at the service history and milage, these jobs are not in the planned maintenance schedule.

i changed the aux belt, tensioner and idler while i was doing the timing belt and pump. made sense as it was all on the floor anyhow.

Don't know why, but in the back of mind I thought it was more mileage dependant than age of the vehicle.

vw will only charge 20 pound more, illphone them tomorrow and add on to the cam belt

4years or 80,00 my dealer told me
