Go with the C channel screwed in to the roof, if you can drive a car then you can do this job it is very easy and literally takes 10 mins. I’ve had one on the near side of my van and have just fitted another to the drivers side for flexibility.
You will need to buy some M6 rubber washers, I just got spares from the parts counter at my local VW dealer for £5 as they come with new roof bolts.
