Touchscreen Replacement for OEM Head Unit Digitiser

Looks great!

Could you share a link to the digitizer you purchased? The one I've fitted from eBay (this link) is definitely dimmer, has a metallic sheen and arrived with scratches. The seller has refunded me, but now I need to find a better one.

Cheers.
Are you sure it wasn’t the protective plastic film that gave the appearance of dim & scratched? There’s a film on both sides, a couple of other folks have been caught out before by it.

Yes, this was my issue.

Question for those that have swapped their digitisers … is the digitiser different on the composition media to the discover media units?

I have composition media and am trying to work out which is the correct replacement digitiser.

Thanks.

I know there is a post somewhere guiding you through the DIY repair of a touchscreen by adding an overlay. However this one provides a screw by screw guide with no missing bits to cause confusion. Literally just finished mine and it was a breeze.

I just replaced mine, following the video, which is brilliant. I wouldn't claim to be familiar with working on electronics but it was very straight forwards - I don't think I've used a Torx 6 screwdriver before! :-0

This is the replacement screen (digitiser) I went for. I saw some references to tinted digitisers, which make the screen dark but this one is crystal clear and the screen appearance is unchanged.

I can now enter a postcode into the sat nav for the first time in 3 years. The whole job took about an hour, maybe slightly more. I'd removed the head unit previously, so I was familiar with that aspect and that part went quickly. Happy Days.

Yes they are the same, I actually took a screen from a comp media and fitted it to my disco media a few years back

Used this today and repaired my Head Unit. Total cost for screen, torx screws and trim tools - £20. Time taken about an hour. A couple of fiddly moments but otherwise straight forward. Normally I would take this to a garage but have just saved myself a small fortune.

I’m going to do my discover media head unit soon. Are all the digitisers on eBay the same, should I just buy the cheapest or is there a way to tell them apart?

I just went for the one advertise for the T6. Didn’t do much research other than making sure the measurements looked correct. I think it was about £12. Working like a dream - good luck ( it is very straightforward).

I need to replace the digitiser on a discover media, anyone bought one lately that is decent quality?

Loads on eBay but don’t want a cheap crap one

Thanks all for posting your experiences as i have now successfully removed the existing digitiser which had stopped working, and as it had been scratched, so rather than overlaying decided to replace it with a new one. Having never tried something like this, the tips about warming and using dental floss were great. Removed the residual glue with panel wipe. Learnt not to use rags that drop lint as it was a bugger to remove the lint/glue when the main glue was gone. Thought I had got it all and then get a streak of glue across the lcd screen. :( I think removing the glue took more time than anything else. Probably took about an hour once removed from the van.
