T6.1 Steering Assist part/no's

Yea this is what I tryed I asume rack must have lost codeing and basic settings so won’t work either on bench by turning the rack rack full left full right
Have you watched my YT video above?
yes. Still dosent work , pissed isn’t the word. Surely all the racks carnt be buggerd I carnt evern conector can to j500 as I’m useing audi cangateway to conect to ecu/ dsg/ abs etc as it says no signal

I tried with terminal 30 and 31 only and power steering works after completing the full clockwise and full anticlockwise rotation cycle.
Without terminal 15 the steering rack goes into permanent sleep mode.
So 15 is required to keep Power Steering Unit alive.

Also dreaming about this retrofit for T5.2-T6
Adding possibility to throw away (finally!!) annoying wet, dripping, flowing, knocking liquid power steering rail

Found some hardware offers in my country
EPS itself: 7L1423051F ~850EU
Subframe: 7LA499029B ~600EU
Stabilizer: 7LA411303G ~150EU
+short aggreagates belt needed, will measure and fit it after a legacy power steering take off
But i'm sure the investment worth it.

Still not clear if PQ25 gateway support steering assist address 44
and what a loom will look like, with a CAN-bus or without, possible to bring Lane Assist or not
Thx

in order to run it separately! you shouldn't connect CAN-bus at all. Seeing at least some messages, the Can rail understands that there is a data bus and waits for messages from there! completely turn off the Can bus and supply power to the rail, then it will go into emergency mode!

sorry to wake this thread up !! i recently looking for a better solution for my van and it has a facelift! it is a t5 but has t6 front end and other bits for making it to look like a t6 and subframe from t6 but my power steering went out and now looking into to retrofit electric power steering rack from a t6 is that possible? since what i can read u need to feed it +12 and minus and key on power +12 to pin where in what pin do i need to feed that in the white circle? so i dont burn the rack motor up

Has anyone made this work yet? I have one I want to fit to a T5. Considering modifying a T5 subframe to accept the EPAS Rack as the mount for the power steering is different. CAN messages for the EPAS I have reverse engineered and can get assist control but these don't match the PQ35 messages from the cluster so need a Man In The Middle device to translate them to the MQB format for vehicle speed at least. I'm working on this atm. But playing back MQB canlogs with set vehicle speeds I get proportional assist. Enable line removed gives a default assist at 50km/h.

It'd be great if anyone has more information on controlling these racks, I'd like to add lane assist in the future.

to update myself, I bought a T6.1 subframe, it looks like its a straight swap apart from the rear exhaust mount which I can probably do something with. I've reverse engineered the rack, it needs CAN ID 0x0FD containing the speed signal to provide speed level assist, otherwise it does defualt assist provided it has any can message sent to it or it has an switched ignition live. I've made a translator that takes the speed message from the PQ25 platform VW T5 (0x288) and converts it to the MQB with the necessary counters and CRC etc. I've done a few tests and it seems to work on the bench, so I need to get it all mounted on the van.

You are absolutely correct.
Thank you so much @solutionz
I think you just have confirmed that I am going to have electric power steering on my T6(PQ25) in the very easy way, subject to mechanical fitment/compatibility.
Obviously followed by LANE ASSIST in the near future :inlove:.
I am also looking forward to seeing this happen, but in China we don't have 7LA steering rackes for sale at all.
We have to import it at a skyrocketly-steepy price, therefore a lot of owners have given up.

Until I have re-proposed the possible choices in China with the unveiling of some PQ25 cars with 2QD 909 144E EPS Sets.

Including:
PQ25: VW Jetta VA3
MQB: VW Bora 19D (LKA ready by flashing the newest firmware of the 2QD steering)
MQB: VW Jetta VS5 (Same as above)
MQB: VW Lavida, Lavida XR

Just these three cars and I would conclude the 2QD Steering Column is a both PQ&MQB compatible one.

Furthermore I don't know its HCA speed.

Also we have these other available racks but not sure which one will go with the T6 (as well as T5)
Alongside with 2QD909144D/E/FM
PQ35: 1K0909144M/P/R
PQ46: 5N1909144M/L/R/P
MQB: 5QD909144 / 5Q0909144
MQB: 3QD909144 / 3Q0909144
MQB: 5QJ909144
MQB: 3QG909144
MQB EVO: 5WA909144 / 5WD909144
MQB EVO: 3JD909144 / 3JA909144

I think that is the full list supporting LKA, PLA and HCA
Although PLA is not supported in the BCM

Aready fitted
Is there very significant difference between T6 Subframe and T6.1 Subframe, regarding the holes to fit the EPS power steering racks?
In China we cannot get the 6.1 parts, we have to do it from the T6 ones (Hmmm, yes, this is tolerable)
or go for CNC with 3D design (BRRRRRRR This will definitely fxxxxk up the designers)

PQ25 Gateway will work, as in China we have PQ25 Jettas with 1K0909144R racks on.

Why not try those PQ25/26/35/46 EPS units? The BCM 7E0 fully supports them.

the T6.1 subframe bolts up to the T5 and T6 chassis and will take the engine mounts also (although you need the rear engine mount from the T6.1 also) and you need to fabricate something for the exhaust mount but the power steering from a T5/T6 will not mount to a T6.1 amd viseversa without significant modification. I'm not sure about the Jetta/Bora powersteering options but this would probably be a preferable route if you can find them cheap and validate if they will mount to the T6 subframe as the route of a T6.1 subframe to a T5 is a big job (this is what I did) and you only get the failsafe level of assist without reverse engineering the steering rack (which I did). I posted my findings on the open inverter forum if you are interested.

Yes I am interested and thanks for sharing. If possible, can you share the link of your findings as you posted on the open inverter forum? Thanks again

I read it. Thanks. Although it is still far beyond my knowledge at this moment.
The things I want to know and see most are?
1- What is your van?
2- What steering rack are you using now? Hydro or Electric?
3- And if it is the electric, which rack are you using now?
4- What else need to be engineered, apart from the mounts?

I want pictures of your subframe modifications so I can find some inspirations for my Transporter T6 in China.

I have a 2005 vw T5. The rack was from a T6.1, it is an electric rack. The only thing I had to fabricate was the exhaust months, everything else was bolt on. I used the t6m1 subframe, arb and arms, everything else was stock.

That is what we are looking for: Putting an electric rack on T6 to support Lane Assist, the great project which my Chinese friends have been messaging me for months since I followed Robert's work to successfully make the 2Q0 side assist radars work. I searched the T6.1 and T6 subframe sets' pictures. I would like to ask a few more sorry for being overly talkative but I just want to be the first Chinese to make the T6 EPS work.

1- Apart from the rack, what else are needed? Did you buy a full set of rack, column, stalk and slipring?
2- The four major bolts for the subframe, are the same of T6 and T6.1, correct?
3- Is the A5 (Front Camera) possible to work then? I will mount a 3Q0980654G to this car and seek parameters (also I will have my friend write one if there isn't any or I will refer to the T6.1's front camera).

I only have speed assisted power steering, I have not tried to get any other control over the rack so far so I have not needed the stalk or anything else. The four subframe bolts are the same, I just reused the T5 ones. I dont know anything about a front camera.
