T6.1 Caravelle head unit questions

Im New to the forum .

I've just recently bought a 71 plate 2021 caravelle and I'm a little confused regarding the head unit .
It's a flush type just a screen with no knobs at either side.
When using the menu dab/fm is an option but I can't see any dab channels . I have no warning to aerial issues . I've also taken off the door card and fitted an after market dab aerial with the same result in no dab channels.
Even the hand book with the van has a different radio in the illustration.
Can anyone advise

The head unit blends the FM and DAB together, so it uses DAB if it can and then falls back to FM. It doesn't explicitly list them as either one.

It confused me at first too.

If you have the digital dash you can run the navigation on both of them at once, which I really liked on the Caravelle we hired as means driver can concentrate on driving and passenger can set up routes.

I don't see any dab at all . Me and the misses like to listen to gb news and gutted . Lol
Even if I wanted to tune to a specific fm ch I couldn't. No tune function

I was even thinking of ripping it out to install a better head unit what works . As long as all the other functions work that is

You have the top end unit so I'd double check for faults before doing that. You don't want to lose things like 4G/LTE connection for system updates and I find the We Connect alerts about alarm and locking very useful.

Also might be worth checking the online version of your manual here (just put in your VIN) if you've ended up with the wrong head unit one in print

Just been out to the van to double check and this is what I see.

I know Radio 2 gets good DAB and FM here so this is what I see with DAB enabled (see note after station name)



And this is what I see without DAB enabled (no note after station name)



The station is the same preset in each case.

Note that even with DAB disabled the source button bottom left still says "FM/DAB" which is confusing...

On my unit the DAB option is under radio settings (the little gear icon bottom right on the radio screen, not the main settings menu) then "Advanced Settings" and here:



I think the mid range and top end units are fairly similar menu wise.

Thank you so much for the info . I know on the beetle we traded in for the van we got dab so we'll. But not on this caravelle . Bit annoying. It's booked in at the end of the month at ve poole to check what the tail gate has stopped auto opening and the radio issues
I'll keep you updated on the progress . I dint think I'll get far from the service so far . They don't have a clue on what their doing.

There are a couple of audio specialists around on the forum too if you decide you really don't get on with it or you need some non VW investigation of the antenna.

I've bought 2 types of dab antenna and either didn't change the outcome with the reception. I bought the roof type antenna for the reason of the poor reception. I won't fit it untill vw have had look . For what its worth.

With the tailgate has it stopped working at all or just off the remote?

If it's the remote double check there are no obstructions behind as it's interlocked with the parking sensors and won't open if it thinks there isn't room. I park back to the garage and it leaves quite a margin of error.

If I recall correctly the indicators will flash in this situation even if the tailgate doesn't release.

Other folks have also found that starting the van with the tailgate open resets some soft close issues and might be worth a try in case that's fooling the van as to the state of the tailgate.

2 Mondays ago I took my 14 month old T32 kombi into my local dealers because the electric tailgate Soft Close mechanism wasn't working. This has been an intermittent problem for half its life and I shall be posting a full write up with 8 by 10 coloured glossy photographs and explanation of...

It was parked without any obstacles and would just click open but that it . No opening or closing . Really annoying
