Annoyingly not. I got in touch with VW Van centre directly and they said they just went through the approved diagnostics steps, ECU showed P00AF Turbo actuator error, they checked all the other parts the diagnostics report told them to and then set about replacing the entire turbo unit (with all new actuators)
So it's now got its THIRD biturbo unit of 2025 in there. They wouldn't let me keep turbo number two, VW keep that for refurbing, but I still have turbo number 1, so I plan to give that to Darkside Developments to have a poke at and see what was actually wrong
I'm very much hoping that it was a slightly damaged EGR cooler that was causing burnt coolant to mess up turbo 1 then turbo 2 and since that whole EGR cooler has been replaced now, turbo number 3 won't meet the same fate
Turbo number 3 Is apparently only covered by the warranty of the initial turbo replacement, despite itself being a whole new unit, so I only have a few months and 6000 miles of warranty left to see if it fails again.
It's very frustrating that I don't know for certain what caused turbo 1 or turbo 2 to fail other than the exact same symptoms of limp mode caused by actuator errors and then the garage confirming through sensor voltages that the actuator wasn't returning to the closed position in a timely fashion (on turbo 1)
