Skyline LWB Aurora with Straps - Anyone had it fiited? Maximum Mattress Depth?

Hi all. Has anyone had the Skyline LWB Aurora Modified Roof with straps fitted and what has been your experience? I was going to go for the standard roof but apparently Skyline are no longer doing a LWB version due to low demand???

Can anyone with the Aurora roof tell me the depth of the mattress used and more importantly, stored in the pop top when down?

Hi,
I cant tell you what it is, but I can tell you what it wont do.
I have the normal Aurora LWB with latches, not with straps. I have a vango 50mm mattress as sold by skyline, you can't store it in the roof it puts pressure on the rear hinges. I roll it up to store it. So its less than 50mm. With all the air out it fits though.

That's interesting as Stealth which is low profile reckon you can get a 70mm mattress in there?!

Doubt you can fit anything approaching 70mm on any low-profile roof.

With my low-profile roof (Hi-Lo) there's barely enough room for a neatly-folded canvas, so 70mm / 2.75 inches just seems very "optimistic". I would be very cautious if storing such a mattress up there as a dealbreaker for you.

So I suppose what stealth may have done is to have a lower bed height, taking more height from within the van.
Although that may make the rear seat to ceiling height a bit marginal.

I think so. you would have to undo the valves, roll it up to squash the air out, do the valves up and then unroll it.
I will pop out to the van and have a go Give me 1/2 an hour...

So yes I think it fits more or less with the air squeezed out.
With the lid back down there is room at the front for me to slide my hand in and out. However there is some resistance to sliding the mattress out. So there is something gripping it a bit, maybe the folded in, pop top sides.
I have a theory just a theory mind, that storing a mattress up in the roof (putting pressure on the mechanism) may be a contributing factor to the issues some people have had with the roof popping up when being driven.
What I would say is that I don’t regret buying the Vango mattress so even if you decide you don’t want to store it in the roof I still think (if you blow it up not too soft not to hard) when rolled up it's a good compromise between comfort and space.

Yes maybe. I don’t just release the pressure though. I rolled it up which squeezes the air out and then I did the valves back up and unrolled it, so its compressed.
I would still buy the mattress, whether I store it in the roof or not, as I don’t think there are any better solutions.

If you simply release the valves on a SIM, it's more likely to inflate further than it is to deflate.

I should imagine they are the same but...
