You won’t get a single answer to that here I am afraid.
Some people will do it every 5k miles. I think every 12k miles is fine. VW think 18k or 21k is fine, but I don’t.
I've had my TSi from new, 3 yrs, 30000 miles, 3 services, 0w20 oil, oem plugs every other service, running on very low/zero ethanol super unleaded ( ESSO Synergy gives a noticeable power boost ) , it continues to run faultlessly.
I don't think a service every 5000 will hurt but, I doubt it's necessary. I've done just under 35k in my TSI in just over 2 years in that time it's had 2 services as requested by VW service schedule, been absolutely faultless. I know there's not many around but I have yet to hear of any faults with the TSI's.
Just done a DIY major on my 2018 TDI - in addition to oil/filter, cabin filter, air filter and fuel filter plus check a load of extra things. Brake fluid change. Mine is due a cam belt imminently too.
Annual or 10k miles for me. No reason to do it every 5k, seems excessive. Base engine design is shared across many cars and no inherent issues, many of them on Longlife crap. Good oil is key.
