Price of diesel in your area?

I notice the price of premium diesel rockets higher during these times too.
Not long ago it was 9-10ppl more than regular. Today it was 24ppl more at Shell and others seem to be at least 20ppl more.
Apparently it's to do with refining. The UK can refine unleaded but not so much deisel so the diesel jumps price quicker than petrol.

I thought they just banged an additive mix in at some point (there are varying opinions as to whether this happens at the refinery, the storage facility, in the tanker or directly into the tanks beneath the forecourts when the truck offloads) to turn standard diesel into premium diesel?

In fact there must be a fraction less diesel in the premium stuff as the additive mix will displace a tiny proportion of the raw fuel.

It's about refining crude into fuel.
So premium diesel is refined differently to standard diesel?

That’s what my original post was about - premium diesel (which I thought was standard diesel with additives poured into it) used to be 9ppl more than standard diesel, now it’s 20-25ppl more.

Didn’t realise they gave it extra work in the refineries.

Crude oil is refined to Diesel or Petrol in a refinery. The process from Diesel/Petrol to premium is, as you say, just an additive done after the refinery stage.

That’s alright then, I’m not going crazy.

Maybe some of the additives are derived from oil but even so the more than doubling of the difference seems a bit rich.
Wonder if more people are buying premium than used to? Perhaps to help protect them from DPF issues etc

Just looked at a couple of fuel receipts- one from last week and one from a month before that. Diesel has gone up 30ppl between those two fill ups. That’s £24 a tank in the space of a month.

Premium diesel now 199 ppl round here and standard 175 ppl.

Only saving grace is it’s highlighting to more people why we need to become self sufficient.

ESSO .

Could have bought asda fuel for 4p a litre less but i'd rather not .
That's bonkers, we put £70.36 of Sainsbury's value brand diesel in on Sunday morning before coming down here to Bath and that was 40.9 litres.
The wife just dug out the receipt as I was sure I had put in 49 litres, panic over, only 13p per litre difference in three days then... 🤕

Euro 4 PD will run on a cooking oil / diesel mix.

When we had the takeaway back in the early noughties one of our customers took some of our used veggie oil from the Pitco chip fryer over a period of weeks.
He was treating it at home with some sort of octane booster, possibly ethanol, and drawing off lanolin as a by product but swore he had a double garage full of 20 litre drums in various stages of refinement.
Long story short he managed to fork up his girlfriends 5 yr old Rover running it on his "special herbal blend" to the tune of just under £2 grand... probably lucky they weren't married as a divorce on top would have been the icing on the cake.

Probably cost more in fuel filters than fuel cost saved.
I’d be very wary of using kerosene, during past employment I used to put brand new kerosene through a centrifugal separator and it contains a lot of kaolin powder, apparently from the production process.
