My Kombi mods

So after spamming the what have you done to your van today thread and @Dellmassive ‘s suggestion here goes my build thread, well more mod thread.

A bit of background...We’d discussed getting a T5 or T6 as a dayvan for weekend trips, we’d had a green/ cream 74 T2 Westfalia and a black/ grey GMC vandura in the past but after finding out we were to go from a family of 3 to a family of 5 the decision was made.

It had to be a Kombi, double slider was desirable, colour not an issue. But it had to have iso fix on all the middle seats. A trip to Breeze soon sorted that out, the guys there were very helpful did us a great deal and we walked away with their demo/ parts van!

First mod...dash to windscreen seal and sounds just like a golf door seal. Cheapest two mods any one can do, if you’ve not done them get it done!

Second mod, chrome grille trims, kinda wanted that caravelle vibe.

Shortly after came the chrome side bars, didnt get any photos of this as it was one of those I’ve got a spare hour what can I do today type mods before the weather changes. We’ve all been there, right?

Next came carpet lining and sound proofing to make it less van like, the usual, silent coat then dodo therm. Think aluminium foil tape is my favourite type of tape these days now! The van is now quieter than my focus ST inside!

Whilst I had it apart I added the rear Pioneer speakers, and extra loom for a sub at some point in the future. I sourced the loom from Skipton and speakers elsewhere. Not much room between the drivers and sides, probably should have added rings but hey ho.

Panels were from design shop, great service and communication but in hindsight could have done them myself. I’d recommend opening the holes up a little more to make putting the hidden clips in a bit easier, and wear gloves too. Clips and carpet from Mega van mats, again great service. Since I’ve done this I could have lived with visible clips as quite like the look now but I’d also explore the single sided 3M dual lock tape, used to use this on boat panels for Sunseeker, not much weight to the 3.6mm panels so should work Ok.

I got rained off and ended up taking an extra day off work, boss wasn’t happy, but less so than the missus, it was still raining come school run the next day!

Been trawling my photos to see what came next.

Wheels...it took me flipping months to find some I liked, twin spokes kept calling me But which ones....Inovit Vectors, 20x8.5upfront and 20x10 on the back. Rears just had to be big!

Just realised I missed side bars and gloss black spoiler...fitting the spoiler was fun but I chickened out of drilling for the two studs.

I really like a colour coded spoiler but the gloss black was going to set a theme to the rest of the van.

More front end mods.
I know I’d already upgraded the front a little but a Black Friday deal on a gloss black grill, red stripe and sportline front spoiler courtesy of Travlin Lite..(did I mention I like a black/ gray van with a red stripe?).

It‘d be a while longer before I’d get round to fitting it. At which point I hadn’t realised I’d received a T5 spoiler. The guys were really good about swapping it over given how much time had passed, couldn’t fault the service!

Quick look on YouTube, Transporter HQ have a good video on removing the front end. I’d be doing this solo.

Any lowering plans?

I went 30mm with the Eibach springs but I'm changing to the 40mm Cobras soon. Just not quite low enough.
What’s the ride like? We don’t do many miles a year so could probably live with a harsher ride over the spend.

Might give that a try then. I’m selling old some school VW bits off at the moment and the missus has said I can spend the dosh on whatever I like

I very nearly put those stripes down the side of my bus, but chickened out and put them on the bonnet and up the tailgate.
Still tempted though...

They are good guys at Breeze, both Poole and Soton, I’ve used both.

I put the stripe on at the weekend, I wanted the caravel chrome but after getting some 30mm stipe it would have looked too big, cut it down to 18mm in the end. one of the photos it doesn’t look real.

Breeze have been really good, even more recently had an issue and the guy on the service desk sorted us out.
