Insurance Companies

Swapped last year from Admiral to Brentacre.

Just renewed with them.

All good except... cannot add my Dad as a named driver as he is too old and daughter because she hasn't held a full licence for long enough !!

I've been with A-Plan a few years, now Howden, and got a quote for the T6.1 while I sell the old van. They took into account my NCB with the quote so worked out ok. Will pay later in the week and happy with that and just the road tax to get too. Saved quite a bit over Adrian Flux.

Right. So it's that time of the year where the Tax and Insurance is up for renewal.
Purchased the Van in 2022 and went with A-Plan/Howdens at what I thought was a decent price of £400.
2023 renewal quote came through of £480, 20% increase and I could live with that as I couldn't be arsed with all the faff of changing insurers, fast forward to an hour ago, another increase of 25% taking it to £590, same old waffle about inflation and what not, they didn't take into account depreciation of the vehicle, for them to consider that I need to get a requote, go figure.

Got a few online quotes from page #1 of this thread and:
  • Motorhome safeguard came in at £470
  • Just Kampers @ £710
    • Within 10 minutes of receiving that quote I received a call from JK, got put through to their underwriters and lo and behold they quoted £465 and that includes them giving me a tracker and the annual subscription of said gadget.
Now just got the hassle of getting Howdens to send me proof of NCB.
Renewal time again, Just Kampers have come in £20 more than last year, and that includes a years tracking subscription, £485 all in.

NFU have been best for me for the last 3 years. Previously Saga until their premiums increased 50%.

NFU were good to deal with but it did worry me that they didn’t mention the conversion on the actual policy doc. Apparently that’s normal for them but I made them note it and all the optional extras done by knights just in case!

LV refused to renew me in June. Comparethemarket, gave 1 option Stirling at nearly £6000, or £500 + a month. Eventually after seeing on here Howden, insurer KGM, Kenneth ? McNeil. for £555 for the year. But excluded the wife as too old.

Yeah I don’t think the comparison sites are worth bothering with unless it’s a stock van. I must have spent about 5hr calling round. Annoying but all but 1 or 2 had to refer to underwriter to get a quote due to value and mods. Often the same underwriter but I guess different contacts so often with different terms applied!

So far (mine renews in June too) LV keep letting me renew despite them not accepting new campervan policies (I believe) for quite a while now.
For me that’s good as no other company ever gets close in terms of price (and yes, I still put myself through an entire day of misery phoning round, inputting my data to websites etc. and try all those recommended on this forum).
Odd because with the car LV went nuts on the renewal price so I moved away from them on that. As ever - another year with no claims and another year of depreciation on the vehicles so no obvious reason for the car policy price to rise. Both are kept on the road at home.

My insurance is up on the 13th and I’m currently with Greenlight but haven’t received there renewal yet so gave them a call today and was told that they would look into it and email me in a couple of hours, asked if I could get it as soon as possible as I’m out the country next week when it’s due. Four hours later still nothing. Called A-plan twice today and still waiting for a call back as all the advisors are busy. Brentacre have phoned me with a price after I filled in there online form but won’t email me the quote. Hell it’s hard work insuring a T6:)
That's not like Greenlight usually, I just got insured for my T6.1 with all mods declared and it was £460 for me and my partner.

*don't know why I responded to the really old post, ignore*

Insurance time wahoo - renew 10th December

Just done 1 comparison through the meerkats. Looks like premium is down 22% from last year. Not complaining.

Will see what my renewal is like with admiral when it raises its head. And will do the old ring around on Monday.

Jeez there must be something wrong with mine. Renewal was up and lots more than others are posting. 20 years NCD; clean licence :( can only think it’s the M postcode. :(

I recently did my bike insurance renewal. I’d followed the advice and sought quotes 22 days in advance to get ‘the best price’.

23 days went by because I’d found better things to do. My insurance ran out at 9am, the quotes all expired at midnight so I had to start the entire process all over again on the morning I wanted cover - wasn’t planning a ride but Sod’s Law says if I left it too long the garage would explode.

Anyway - turns out the 22 day thing is BS. I saved another £8, vs the quotes, by doing it just after it expired!

Presumably the cunning insurance companies thought - everyone’s asking for quotes 22 days early, let’s whack the prices up.

Mmmm maybe

My postcode is East London - pretty horrific for motor insurance. 4 years NCD / clean license and mods declared.

Will be checking LV Monday as they were competitive last year. Direct Line / Brentacre don’t like me because of postcode.

LV have informed me that when my renewal for my camper is due in January they will not be able to offer cover due to a change in their ⬇️
✍️ criteria. 🤷‍♂️
