Insurance Companies

I have a multi car with A. FLUX for my T6 camper and they were brilliant .... initially they gave me a year to convert it and then when I added my Modified Landie they gave me a discount.

Push them on price they gave another £25 off as I had a quote for close to the same from Lancaster.
Worth a shot
Cheers Paul

Has anyone actually made a claim from any of these companies?

Im in the process of a claim with Brentacre, but the policy is underwritten by Markerstudy.

I'll keep you all updated, as it goes along.

At the moment, I have been notified by a bodyshop via text message, that they will be doing the repair, even though I specifically asked for a VW approved bodyshop in an email I sent to Markerstudy.

I have emailed Markerstudy and asked them to stop, as this is not what I want.
Never been in this situation before, so any help would be much appreciated.

The van is a 2018 T6 Highline, still in warranty.

Thanks

Don't think that a VW approved bodyshop would do a better job. Most insurers use manufacturer approved bodyshops and all their work is warrantied for life.

I had a VW approved bodyshop do my Golf and it was released with a broken suspension spring, went back 3 times before I signed off repairs.

Its your decision who you get it repaired through at the end of the day so if you are not happy with their bodyshop then thats you call.

Tried A plan today and told they cannot find anyone prepared to cover me as I declared annual mileage of approx 50,000mls
Existing broker part of the A plan group companies has a quote from LV for £935.00

Very happy with Comfort. Very efficient regarding repairs when I was hit in Plymouth last year. Had to pay an excess when person who drove into me refused to admit responsibility. Comfort called in lawyers, got their money back and also my excess for me.

I have a contact that is giving discount on van insurance for T6F VIP Members.
Hi Fish....I need insurance before Thursday 1st August as mine has just been cancelled because the DVLA have refused to re-register mine as a Campervan due to their recent change in rules. It was insured under a Campervan policy through Classic Line by AXA Insurance whilst being converted but, as it is now a classed as “a van with side windows”, AXA will no longer cover it. Is your contact likely to cover this even though it has had a full professional conversion and is a brand new 2019 van, now worth MEGA MONEY .........hope you can help, keep up the good work ✔️

Thanks.....Old & Bald ‍

Because they are Bar Stewards.....The DVLA, in June, changed the criteria for changing the V5C from a van to camper/motorhome (See DVLA in previous posts). My letter from the DVLA says....

"Although you have converted the interior of the vehicle with living facilities associated with a motor caravan, externally the vehicle remains as it was originally constructed by the manufacturer. As the vehicle cannot be identified externally as a motor caravan, for the purpose of our records, we cannot change the body type description. The only body type description to describe how the vehicle actually looks (externally) is "van with side windows".

My van has been fitted with a Reimo pop top, which is approx 4/5" higher than the manufacturers steel roof so it HAS been changed significantly but they are having none of it. I have been refused twice.

ALSO.......I'm out of pocket by approx £150 because of "commission claw back and a £25 administration fee." Adding insult to injury....:mad::mad:

Wow that is frustrating. I cannot believe they are doing this. Wish I could offer something to help. I guess a sticker saying "I am a Campervan" - sorry I know this is not funny. Would putting another window solve the problem ... this could always be painted out on inside etc. Have they given any indication as to what would make a difference?

Understand your total frustration! Paul

We have a false window down one side of our van (for symmetry purposes) behind the wardrobe and cupboards therefore no point cutting a hole in the van. However, I guess the way DVLA are describing campervans as window vans would mean it wouldn’t help. Glad we changed our V5 before DVLA went gaga.

My Insurance is due In October and I'm led to believe its best to start getting quotes 21 days before its due, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis.
I'm with LV but may look at Brentacre and at @Fish contact and a few others.
I'm now wondering, with the DVLA reg as Van/Side Windows, if I'm going to have to go through the full rigmaroll of supplying photos etc etc to get a full value Insurance for my Converted Van to a camper every time I may switch Insurers? I doubt the conversion company I got the van from are listed but one never knows.

This may be a very strange question - as I'm going through this process now and asking them questions (and more come up in my head all the time).

I'm noticing a trend of them dropping new for old periods even when the van is purchased 'as new as possible' from the professional converter (they only give it on out of factory motorhomes and compers).

Also, when you get market value at time of write-off it is market value for a converted camper, right? Not market value for a T6 Transporter? That's another question to query on my next round of calls. Hahah!

You raise a very valid point there and it’s definitely worth checking the small print
Someone posted here a while back that they insured their camper and when checking the details it only covered the base vehicle plus (I think) £1k so not accounting for the cost of the full conversion, imagine making a total loss claim and finding that out !!

As an update. Safeguard were the one who insisted they did old for new even with a converted camper (bought from a reputable dealer - they recognise a lot of them).

Sadly, once I informed them of a previous accident that insurance removed my no claims so it's a no go - but for people wanting a new for old period for a converted (by dealer) van. They insist they do it.

In closing.

A Plan is my main insurance and MB&G is my gap insurance. Now to read the small print - because literally no one would accept gap insurance on a converted campervan even when bought from a reputable dealer in a converted condition. MB&G did, but a handful refused so I can't help but be skeptical. It didn't sound like a con :)

Have been with Adrian Flux on and off for 10 years, they've always been excellent, including dealing with a "not at fault" claim.
This year their quote was unfortunately ridiculous and A-Plan came in at half the price for a T6 campervan conversion with a few modifications.
A-Plan were sensible to deal with on the phone (Thatcham branch) and I'm hoping the rest of their service is good.

I got a great deal from A Plan on a PV that I'm looking to convert.....Tried Adrian Flux but they wouldn't cover if I didn't do a full conversion with sink/hob etc....A Plan were excellent....

Felt the need to post having just had some great service from a-plan with regards to a 2015 highline kombi. A-plan are happy with any mods I make, even re-mapping, as long as the mods or mapping don't increase the value or performance beyond what VW have on any standard Kombi they sell.[ up to approx 180 the guy said, mines 102 at present ] We're not planning on doing anything like that yet, but we've had it lowered, Bilsteins to the max of course, and the wheels are about to be ordered... when the missus gives the go ahead ;) Away i digress, he didn't bat an eye lid at that just said let us know so its on your policy. So a big thumbs up for A-plan here if you're not going for a full conversion like us. By the way are quote came in at £329 for two 50 year olds on fully comp, living the dream!
