A word of warning for anyone with LV.

I’ve been with them since 2020, the policy auto-renewed each year without me lifting a finger. The renewal email came through this Jan and I assumed it would just auto renew as usual. I got a letter from the police yesterday to say I am uninsured, no prosecution but just sort it out. I was horrified when I found out, called LV and they said they don’t insure Transporters any longer due to an underwriting change. They said if I clicked renew they would have honoured the policy but I didn’t so they cancelled it, I assume they removed the auto renewal that was previously setup so they can get rid of the policies.

Anyway, so I set up a new policy with Admiral so all sorted but I am pretty fed up with LV. If you are with them make sure you click renew or your policy will expire and you can’t reinstate it.

That's really poor - at the very least LV should have highlighted to you that auto-renew was no longer active.

It’s obviously my responsibility to make sure I’ve got insurance in place but I agree that LVs approach is poor and will cause innocent mistakes.

What I am impressed with is the police for writing to me to give the chance to get it sorted out rather than just throwing the book at me. It made me feel queasy to think I have been driving around uninsured for the last two months :-(

TBH, if the worst had have happened, I suspect LV would have still been on the hook for any claim, as not notifying you would have contravened industry-standard codes of practice, BUT it would have been an almighty mess to sort and very stressful for all involved.

Try Comfort Insurance, they specialise in campervans and motorhomes and have been the best for us.
Funny you should mention them...

After trawling around all the usual suspects (A-Plan, Brentacre, Adrian Flux, Just Kampers, Safeguard, etc.) and not getting any quotes I was even remotely happy with (all in the range of £700 to £1400, except for A-Plan who said "we'll call you back" but never did), I googled "campervan insurance" and up popped Comfort Insurance. On-line quote was a simple process and the premium was reasonable... ish (£550), so called them us to discuss further and the resulting premium was reduced to £520.

Now, the previous quotes may well have softened me up, but I thought that wasn't bad for a brand new, very expensive camper, especially as it comes with new-for-old cover in the first 3 years/15k miles (not quite sure how that works in practice, given that the T6.1 order book is now closed, but that's an issue for another day).

All in all, Comfort were knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with, and they made life easier with little things like holding the price for 30 days and giving a 14-day grace period within which to get a tracker fitted.

Glad it worked for you. I'll be renewing with them soon, 4th year in a row, and still competitive premiums for us

I have been with Comfort for 3 years now @AlanDK, and although I haven’t had to make a claim, as specialist insurers they really seem to know their stuff. They are always very friendly and efficient to deal with, and have been the most complete and competitively priced quote each year for us (and I do thoroughly look around on renewal each year).

Very odd, I got my LV renewal email last week and they said it would auto-renew.

Got to call them as anyway to change a few things, will find out what's going on!

Insurance is such a faff!

Currently with LV for the camper and car. Got a renewal today and despite no claims (well over the 9 year NCD too) in the last year and no doubt a depreciation in value the premium went up by around £140 per vehicle.

Does seem they will renew the camper though so that’s something I guess.

Of course I came straight here to see who others recommend. I tried Comfort using their online quote tool and was told they can’t give a price online.

I refuse to try JK as they pestered me no end when I got a quote last time and I feel they passed my details on. They weren’t cheap either.

Brent are we’re expensive last time I looked but I could try just in case they’ve changed.

Tempted to try and get an agreed value policy this time as I always worry if the worst happens the insurance won’t value the camper properly- any pointers on who is good for agreed value policies?

Just went through the faff with my car. Insurance company renewal had gone up by a similar amount to yours.
Went straight onto ”compare” and literally halved my premium.
Straight to my previous house insurance company who I had left because they had hiked their renewal.
Its just a merry go round.
Was on auto renewal with the car so had to call the present insurer to say I wouldn’t be taking their policy out, so needed to cancel the auto renewal. They immediately reduced my premium offer to that which I had paid the year before.
Worth getting alternative quotes and then take those values back to your existing insurer, to see if they will better their premium, if you wanted to stay put. Otherwise there are savings to be had in moving around.
From the wildly different quotes I’ve had for the car, van and house, I reckon some just try it on to see how much they might be able to bleed from you.
