Fresh-water filling problem

Hi there fellow VW campers - our T6 has an underslung on board water tank capacity approx 60 litres we are having problems with filling it - the filler is situated inside the cab near the sliding door by the base of the rear seat , when we try to fill it with a hose from the mains -however slow we run it - the water backs up and comes out at the filler cap , we have tried also to use a funnel attached to a small length of hose pipe and have literally stood there and tipped water in to the funnel gradually whilst the other person holds the funnel upright , this is also painfully slow and can only trickle the water in as otherwise the water again backs up and out the filler opening the same as when we are using a hose pipe direct , its a new tank and there appear to be no kinks or restrictions or blockages in the water tank, please can anyone help / advise or suggest an easier and hopefully quicker way to fill our water tank , thank you

Hi there,
It sounds like you haven’t added on overflow pipe in the tank, if you haven’t and try to fill it will create a back pressure and the only place it can be forced back is against the filling valve that I am guessing doesn’t have a one-way valve in the line.
Or installation of a one-way vent
Let me know if it helped!

I'm not a specialist, I'm looking into installing a underslung watertank myself

Thanks,

As @airwolfke says.
There is no need to have a filler inside the cab, it’s possible to fill a tank with a pressure hose through a 12mm (1/2” inlet) with a non return valve (NRV).
This filling line can be made at any point in the tank.
There needs to be a separate tank vent with a filter to prevent dirt ingress, 6mm is big enough to allow air to vent in both directions.
There’s plenty on the Forum regarding water tanks, have a Search

the conversion wasn't done by ourselves but through a camper conversion company -sounds like something is amiss with how they went about fitting it ?

Which converter? There maybe others who’ve used the same converter who have made modifications.

sounds like a breather/vent is either missing or blocked. Do you have a photo of the filler with the cap off?
