The gaskets look Like single use with a crush ring .Did it come with the shim/gaskets or did/were you able to reuse the existing ones?
It was re-designed to prevent cracking, IMO you should have bought the latest version if you are keeping the van.He also said that this parts is cheap, but they do have an updated version with a solid elbow on it which is £105.
I’ve got bigger problems with the van right now tbh, I removed the pipe to check for possibleIt was re-designed to prevent cracking, IMO you should have bought the latest version if you are keeping the van.

It's a pain in the arse but possible with mucho perseverance , the rear pipe is worse , great design by VWSmall 1/4 drive ratchet and by feel.

Had to buy another for mine. Haven't done it yet this time. Its the revised one15 months old it has a hole at the inlet manifold end. Where the brass weld is there's a pin p***k hole blowing. I noticed from smell so checked and it is all black around it. Took it into work and smoke tested it. Sure enough a small jet of white smoke from the tiny hole.Just spent an hour or so replacing the front EGR pipe after that decided to break last weekend.
The pipe had come apart from the "bracket" at the EGR end, which resulted in a flashing coil light, and (eventually) EML.
As others have said, the last bolt is a git, as it's virtually impossible to see.
Interestingly, the failed pipe was one of the revised part number, 04L131521AR, rather than the original, 04L131521AG.
Anybody else seen failures on the supposed improved design?

What sizes did you order as my rear pipe has goneSo reading through this thread, the rear EGR is best removed/fitted with a long 1/4 spline, is this what we’re taking about?
