EGR flexi-pipe: Exhaust Fumes In Cab, Hissing From Engine Bay.

My light came on, same code, replaced split pipe, cleared code, came back a week later. Now in for a new EGR

EGR! Bloody things. Mines in having a new EGR fitted. Oh, and two new turbos! Bill is going to be very very painful . Still at least it'll be done .. only to be going up for sale for someone else to have peace of mind motoring.

Exhaust Manifold To egr inlet pipe, I bought one of these from Vw parts centre in Liverpool on Friday, and it was surprisingly cheap at just £27!

The bloke on the desk said they sell lots of these, it’s a common failure, hence having the part, the gaskets and new bolts in stock on the shelf.
He also said that this parts is cheap, but they do have an updated version with a solid elbow on it which is £105.
I was really surprised by the price at £27, it was £85 on most places on line….

Did it come with the shim/gaskets or did/were you able to reuse the existing ones?
The gaskets look Like single use with a crush ring .
The other similar pipe coming out the other side of the egr has same gasket at one end, but a rubber seal At the other where it goes into the inlet manifold.
I got new gaskets and new bolts as the ones that came out the exhaust manifold looked an
Little stretched and it was a worry taking them
Out with a lot of back and forth on the ratchet.

It was re-designed to prevent cracking, IMO you should have bought the latest version if you are keeping the van.

I’ve got bigger problems with the van right now tbh, I removed the pipe to check for possible
Leaks as part of trying to get to the bottom of my po299 underboost issue, replacing the pipe (which wasn’t at fault) with a new original part , plus gaskets and new bolts, rather than putting the old one back seemed like a sensible option at this time. An upgrade at a higher cost can come when I have got to the bottom of the fault I have.

My issue could at his stage potentially be dpf or turbo related, so it’s going to be expensive.

Does anyone know the name / part number of this pipe please?
How difficult is it to replace?

Just spent an hour or so replacing the front EGR pipe after that decided to break last weekend.
The pipe had come apart from the "bracket" at the EGR end, which resulted in a flashing coil light, and (eventually) EML.
As others have said, the last bolt is a git, as it's virtually impossible to see.

Interestingly, the failed pipe was one of the revised part number, 04L131521AR, rather than the original, 04L131521AG.
Anybody else seen failures on the supposed improved design?

Had to buy another for mine. Haven't done it yet this time. Its the revised one15 months old it has a hole at the inlet manifold end. Where the brass weld is there's a pin p***k hole blowing. I noticed from smell so checked and it is all black around it. Took it into work and smoke tested it. Sure enough a small jet of white smoke from the tiny hole.

My 2018 150 DSG, 63k is at my local VW indie with a squeaky aux belt, they've just called to say the front and back EGR pipes are split and need replacing which has in turn damaged the aux belt with the leaking dirty exhaust gases (aux belt was only 6 months, 4k old). I'll suck up the £525 quote, but is there anyway to check the condition of the EGR valve while the pipes are being replaced, is it worth doing cost wise?
Ironically I did ask about the checking the EGR valve when I dropped it off (before I knew the pipes needed replacing), but they said just wait until until it starts playing up as it'll be a gradual process.

Have never heard of the fumes making the aux belt to go. They are not even near each other. Mine cracked and my front one has been gone for a few months. (Changed it now) and my belt is still ok.
We've had cars in with the injector belting fumes out of the seal and that don't make any belt go.
They talking bull. Sorry for my language .

You get at least the front Flexi pipe replaced when the VW garage flushes the EGR, I've had this done twice now on my 61,000 mile 2017 102hp camper.
Once under warranty at about late 30,000 miles and earlier this year while bending down to pick up the soap in the shower, from memory that was around £500 ISH but was part of investigating whether the aux belt tensioner pulley had died too.
Edit new pipes and bolts each time.
