That said, I don’t think I’ve used Nav once since I updated the last time… it’s just so terrible compared to CarPlay.

Yes, certainly an excellent backup when in Europe or offline in remote areas.

Is it possible to simply drag and drop content from extracted folder to a SD card?
does it matter if you are using mac or win?

Unless you've jailbroken your head unit, you need a genuine VW map card, or a cloned one. It's then a case of extracting the downloaded file which will produce a "Maps" folder, format the SD card and drag/drop or copy &paste the Maps folder into the root of the formatted card.

Hi, sorry for lack of info. I do have a genuine vw map card, and I used to update the maps with a vw tool, which sadly is longer available. So simple drag abd drop should do.
Does the card need to be formarted? Which standard?

Normally its enough to delete the files on the card before copying new content. No need to format.

Just revisting this and wondered if anyone had any joy getting the full europe maps squeezed onto a 16gb card ?
I have removed all languages except GB and the seat/skoda/man stuff but still way over, hoping for a way that doesnt require altering the routing files (and disrupting countries)

Nope tried it a few times. Eventually had to go to 32gb card which in itself is a bit of a faff.

Your either have to use the VW supplied one at mega bucks or get one from eBay which I did.

The van will not recognise the cards unless it has the VW SW on it. I tried that as well.

I had to hack my unit to accept the generic, non-VW 32gb cards, works a treat and no noticeable difference in the operation or functionality of the head unit or maps. It’s a 10 minute job & doesn’t require removing the unit from the van, it’s all done in software.

I understand the ins and outs of it all just enquiring as i offer card updates for people so was looking for a solution thats works for everyone with little to no input, seems that ship has now sailed so i will start offering choice of the smaller european map options

I’ve never understood the rationale behind the various country bundles on the map download options. Why they miss Spain & Portugal off and include Iceland beats me
