Android Car Stereos UK

Sorry to hear you have had a struggle with this. It does sound like it's definitely not fit for purpose to me. A dim screen alone implies to me that the unit is faulty and certainly not as described - no one wants a dim screen. I would very likely be in your situation. I would very likely not be able to get it fitted straight away and if I had the issues you have had I'd have responded exactly the same way. If the seller weren't able to exchange I'd be sending it back for a refund as well.

Online consumer law should have you covered - you have the right to a refund, repair, or replacement for faulty goods that are not of satisfactory quality, not fit for purpose, or not as described.

But - "we do not replace products simply because someone claims there is an issue."

I think the fact that you have declared the unit not fit for purpose within the required time frame and the seller is insisting you send photos and evidence and then subsequently going to the extent to almost smear you on a public forum says alot. You are well within your rights to report on an experience with a vendor and I don't think it's unreasonable for a vendor to at least offer an exchange for a presumed faulty unit.

Maybe send us some photos of your issues? Or try sell it on the forum and recoup some of your loss?
Thanks..I wouldn't feel happy trying to flog it to someone else. Yeah I don't understand why they were so adament on making it very difficult and then twist lots of things to make me look bad, maybe because i'm female?? Who knows?!!! That's my screen pics on max brightness and after removing the protector not much improvement. Not taken with flash, just sat in van with normal daylight... simply seemed not quite right. Not sure whether its just my opinion or faulty...But what do I know. I won't say any more about it as quite over it all, just had to put the facts straight as its all quite petty. The focus seemed to shift on the time frame I reported it in, yes 12 days is within 14 🥱 whether its day 2 4 ,6 8 oh my gosh I got to 12 before I tried it out ! How dare I 🙄

I really hope your sex doesn't form part of their reasoning as that really would be a sad state of affairs.
Those screen pictures do look pretty poor to be fair to you.
Hope you manage to sort it with the company

That does seem overly dull.

Here is mine for context but really with different cameras and lighting it's hard to compare.

There is a pull down with an eye protection mode? Is that on?

20250619_200420.jpg

I'm not going to sit here and say it's the absolute brightest screen in the whole world but from my use in the day and night I'm happy. For sure in sun light you get the glare but at the end of the day it's a lower end LCD screen. I wouldn't expect more.

That said your photos do look excessively dull.

What does it look like with the screen protector off? Also it looks like it's in dark mode. If you go into standard settings and change it to light mode? I'm suggesting this as a 15 year android user. Dark mode on an android phone looks similar to light mode but the dam evri QR code reader insists that there is no code unless it's in light mode. Hopefully we can get this sorted out

Additionally. Are these the photos you sent that were
  • A photo taken in direct sunlight with little camera focus, making the display appear far dimmer than it is in real-world conditions
It feels like you have purposefully taken these photos from an angle that makes the unit look bad... have you tried sitting in the passengers seat or even the back of the van and seeing if that fixes it? Maybe it looks better from across the road? you could try putting window covers on your van so that you can keep the sun off it. User error...

P.s. I'm obviously being sarcastic

Its difficult to understand whats really going on here as we don't have sight of the original communication, and it would not be appropriate anyway. Clearly both customer and supplier are very frustrated which has been reflected in the comments made.

Assuming that the customer isn't an auto-electrician, it might be worth having a different auto-electrician to the one that installed it take a look. They could also assess the "overheating issue" which would help the supplier determine if its faulty.

The thing I don't understand is that the supplier still doesn't know whether its a faulty unit or not. Appreciate that the customer hasn't given them the information they asked for initially and the frustration expressed doesn't help. However if this happened in my retail business I would just arrange for a courier to collect the item, inspect it on return, if not faulty return to the customer, if faulty replace or refund. As infuriating as these situation are its not worth the hassle otherwise.

Hope you both sort it out.

I’ve looked at this and I’m quite happy to pay someone

Just a thought, have you tried it without the screen protector off?

Received mine today, and aim to fit it tomorrow.

Will report with my findings.

Did you get any extras with it i.e dab, mqb harness or does the unit contain everything needed?

Ordered the harness and Mic as an extra.

Will let you know on the DAB side of stuff, bought some stuff and in the middle of fitting.

Fitted it today and 1st impressions are, very good indeed.

Prior to ordering, I had a few questions for @AndroidCarStereoUK and these were promptly answered within an hour or two.

As there was a slight delay in processing my order, they emailed me and apologised for this but they upgraded their despatch to a 24hr service rather than the 48hr stipulated.
Nice touch and very much appreciated.

Screen:
Excellent clarity, brightness levels are fine.

Sound:
No notable difference from the original head unit, I am running stock speakers.

Connectivity:
Again, Excellent.

Still playing about with the settings and stuff.

Overall, very happy with the purchase and even more so with their customer service.
If you're budget doesn't allow you to go down the full Gucci kit route then this is an ideal upgrade from the standard head unit.

Extras purchased were the MQB Harness and the Mic, these were from the retailer.

Also:
DAB Adapter
Aerial adapter

Fitting was simple enough, even for a humpty like me.
Hardest part was tracing the Mic lead.

Edit: Not fitted the rear camera, didn't have the time. A job for another day.

Speakers upgrade is next on the cards.

Can you post a picture of the reverse camera ? How is this fitted or is it wireless. Fills me with dread, running a cable.
What's the advantage of the larger memory versions?

Which model did you go for ? The difference seems to be the rom and ram, not sure what this difference means in terms of performance

It's a wired one, and the running of the cable also filled me with dread.
Just opted for the Nextbase 522GW front and rear dash cam bundle from Halfords.
Currently £100 off, paying for them to do the fitting.

6Gb/64Gb, same as you, not as Scrooby on what the difference is.
I work along the lines that more is better
So it shows a generic vehicle with the doors open - not a van with a sliding door?
That it does, a door is a door in my eyes.
The rears show a boot, but at least it gives you a warning.

@Cuffy (or anybody else!) does it retain both the OEM top and front dash USB sockets as input sources? Also what model is your van - I ask because as far as I recall, I didn’t even get ‘doors open’ displayed on my 2018 Highline OEM Colour composition stereo and I don’t get it on my current 8021 either. Cheers.

Bizzare question here, but does the head unit still show 'phone' in the MFD?

I would be thrilled if it does not, as this is one of the biggest failings of the digidash (which i have) is fact you can inadventantly make a call when moving around the menus and the first you know about it is when you hear it calling. I have actually unpaired my phone to the stock head unit to overcome this for the time being.

Yes, both USB's are still available.
On a side note, bit of a faff replacing the central surround due to the dash USB, but by pushing it up from inside the dash makes life alot easier.

Van is a 2019.

That's one thing I've not checked, as in the MFD.

After I manged to fit it without goosing anything, I stood back and went into full Clarkson mode....
"Behold, look at my technical brilliance"

I will check in the morning, too much alcohol has passed these lips today to try and remember how to navigate my round the MFD.
