Additional Battery for - Portable Power Generator

I have a series 1 EcoFlow River Pro and have found it to be really useful for offgrid power.
I wanted to add additional capacity but the Ecoflow extra battery option is no longer available from EcoFlow.

I have seen a couple of Youtube videos where extra capacity has been added to portable power generators using separate LiPo4 batteries connected via the solar input to charge up the power generator. (A much more cost effective alternative then investing in the Ecoflow extra battery option)

Has anyone else done this? Got any real world experience of connecting external batteries to portable power generators?
