Thanks, yeah I guess I'll try that first. I'm just thinking that it'll always have a cfca engine so do people even buy them now or is it such a well known problem nowadays that no one will touch it. Will I even be able to sell it after putting a new engine in it or then have to keep it and hope for the best on engine number 2.

Here's hoping the garage find the problem is just a turbo or something but it's not looking good..

Many people steer away from the CFCA so I can see why your hesitant to chuck a load more money at it .
Personally I wouldn't think it will be financially worth putting a new engine in unless your gonna be keeping it and deleting the troublesome parts

I fitted a Tafmet and egr blanking plate to my 2013 t5 a year ago, oil changed recently at 4k, oil analysis came back clear so I’m happy. However, just found out I have to go in to VW for a recall on the airbag and they also have a recall against my t5 California for the egr! Does this mean I have to remove the Tafmet and blanking plate before taking it in? I’d rather leave it as is (I’m imagining that unblanking might lead to metal contaminants being released into the engine during the short drive to the dealer), but I don’t know how the VW dealer would react to me refusing the egr recall and taking in a blanked-off van. Do you have any advice on the best course of action to take? The airbag recall is essential; it could cause a fatality if it’s not corrected.

I'm looking at fitting a Tafmet to my 2012 T5.1 which should at least stop any further damage being caused (it has a Type D EGR already). I looked online but can only find supplied from abroad is that right?

With regards to the recalls I have just recently had the Airbag recall done & no new airbag required (seems to mostly affect the ID Buzz the VW Dealer told me). At the same time they tried to get me to have the emissions recall which I refused (as I had heard that having done has caused mayhem). They were fine with that (I think they've had a lot of refusals) and just had to sign to say I didn't want it doing. Job done. They returned van back to me all nice and clean inside & out. Happy days. Steve

There is only one item for the 180ps, no issues easy to fit with the correct tools.
Have a Search and read through the details.
Oil changes and analysis needed after the installation to be sure that you caught it in time.
Other than the EGR the engine and turbochargers are pretty bullet proof unlike the 204 IF you stick to 8K mile oil changes.
My van was way cheaper than other models on sale when I bought it with 23K miles, perfect buy as it costs peanuts to fix.

It's easy to fit yourself. If you get a spare EGR connector and put some effort in with the correct loom tape you can hide the device and the wiring and it'll look OEM so no problems at MOT or inspection
