Hi,
I have a brand new van arriving on Thursday. After shopping around for insurance, A-plan came up best for me - additional modifications at no cost was attractive as well.

When I mentioned this forum, they told me they could apply a 10% discount, which saved me £35ish.

Hi RFD,

Was there a special code to quote which gets you 10% discount or was it just the fact of mentioning T6forum?

I’m supposed to be collecting my new van tomorrow, but as yet don’t have insurance. I haven’t been able to get a quote, because I still don’t have a registration number. I’ll be calling the VW dealer again today.

From what you’ve said, your premium was £315 after discount, just wondering what spec your van is and what it’s primary use will be?

The reason I ask, is so I have something to compare against.
Thanks

Hi,
I just mentioned the forum. No need for a code or anything.

Mine is a brand new 150 Kombi Highline with about £4k of dealer extras and a similar in modifications - all declared. Bristol area postcode and full NCB.

When insuring my Mk2 Golf, I get asked if I am a member of any club. With specialist/classic insurance, being in a club generally means that you are enthusiastic, therefore more likely to take cars and look after your vehicle and in turn, be a lower risk.

Very excited to be collecting our new (to us) 2020 T6.1 next Wednesday from Aire Valley Campers in Keighley.
Many recommendations through you lovely forum folk on insurance companies, after an exhaustive couple of days on the phone, Adam at A Plan Thatcham -(no relation to the security company, just in the same village) has come up with a fair deal.
They won't do an agreed value unless you push them later, won't do Gap insurance (rumour has it other independant companies can sort that), but they will replace like for like in the event of a claim, not give a panel van valuation if written off.
Insurance value of £50k, I'm 55 wifey is 49, a couple of vehicle thefts in the past 5 years, one sp30 and a non fault claim on my motorbike.
We live in the Republic of Walsall, West Midlands, category 5 Global Telematics tracking immobiliser (open to comments on that) 10,000 miles, 180 days European cover, £3500 equipment cover, £1000 awning cover. £400 excess, £125 glass cover. Courtesy car unless written off.
10 year No claims discount.
There is a discount, but not a set one, for T6 forum members. Underwriter KGM.
£445 plus £39 legal cover.
I think I'm happy with that!
Apologies for the length of this, but while it was fresh in my mind.....
So excited!

I wish I lived in the republic of Walsal. I live near Epping in Essex and pay £1400.00
Also A-Plan.
No points
1 no fault claim in the last 5 years.
I could cry sometimes.

I renewed insurance with A-Plan today for another year. I was told that they couldn't apply the 10% discount because they'd supposedly already given a £50 discount.

Nonetheless I wasn't going to quibble. The price only increased marginally from last year - I was anticipating quite a hike since the van was hit last year by a third party when parked.

I also listed the mods that we'll be having done in April and they added those at no additional cost.

There has to be one advantage to living near to Walsall! That's probably the only one. The kingdom of Essex has a certain ring to it!
