Who's Re-coloured The Stripe On Their Grill?

I'd really like to change the chrome grill stripe and VW badge to white on my van. One problem: I'm utterly clueless when it comes to car/van stuff.

I'm guessing that the plan would be: remove it, prime it, spray it, put it back. I'm confident to do exactly zero of those steps myself, but up for trying.

What do people reckon? Suitable job for a code-geek with few practical skills? Any tips? How much is a new grill if I screw it up?

Buy them already done on flea bay, or try Vanstyle, less hassle, same result

For top grill with badge it’s bumper off job as well.

Well, that's one job less on the list for now then! Crap -thought that might be an easier one.

Wouldn't mind making the black parts of the wing mirrors white as well, but guessing that's Also a pain

I never removed bumper to remove badge and silver strips!
The badge popsout with an old credit card inserted around the edge,
And the trim bits unclip

If its just badge and strips, you won’t need to but if it’s grill aswell it’s bumper off I’m afraid...

I just want to change the silver bits (badge and one stripe) to white.
Wish I'd posted this before it got dark now. I want to take a closer look

Shouldnt be a problem getting them off from the front all just unclips

Ok, so the badge is easy. Are we saying that the silver stripes remove as well? (Just trying to avoid a situation where I try to prizw off something that doesn't come off!)

Yes silver strip, badge and lower plastic strip all unclip.
If you are unsure take them to local paint shop to be painted, won't cost much.

Nice. If the Mrs doesn't have other plans I might have a go at getting them off this weekend.

I just want them gloss white. Wouldn't mind giving it a go myself if it can be done with a few aerosol cans

Do you have to sand the shine of the chrome strips before painting them

Thanks
Andy

I was just looking at a couple of YouTube videos where they use ' plastiwrap' for jobs like this.

Looks like an option. Just sprays on and peels off if you balls it up. Every example I've seen has been quite a Matt finish though, but that might be their choice

Seeing stuff about plastidip. Sounds like the same product. Quite a few hits fronfirum search on that. They also have a "glossifier" you can add.
