Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

I do love laying in bed listening to the owls . They're kind of comforting.
I would agree. One exception which we found in the south of Italy this year, at night kept hearing this noise ,a regular sound almost like a smoke alarm needing a new battery. Turned out to be the call of the Eurasian scops owl. Bit annoying at first but got used to it after a while.

Heard a Tawny Owl outside our place late last night, first time I've heard an owl around here in 30 years of living here!
I laughed at a story I read a while back about this guy whose house backed onto a wood.
He would go out every night and talk to this owl.
He would be out giving it big tawits and would get the reply tawoo.
He been doing this for months.
He bumped into his neighbour and got talking about how great the wildlife is around their homes and mentioned that he talked to this owl every night and funnily enough his neighbour was talking to an owl also.
Turned out the pair of plonkers were out every night squawking to each other

"The note of the cue-owl is infinitely soft - sweet as the whisper of a flute. But penetrating beyond belief. It is a lingering note and comes in triplets, on the one unchanging key: hoo-o-o, hoo-o-o, hoo-o-o; then a silence of 15 seconds, then the triplet again, and so on all night. At first it is divine; then less so; then trying; then distressing; then excruciating; then agonizing, and at the end of two hours the listener is a maniac."

About 16 years ago, I was on a road trip to the UAE and we arrived in the area of the Turkey / Syria border a bit late and at the time crossings could take up to 5 hours, even armed with the correct paperwork! We decided to camp in the hills and get an early start the next day. Once it got dark, the local owls really kicked off to the extent that it was difficult to get a kip without ear plugs (which I always carry). I don't know what type they were as we didn't see them but there are a few in the area, including Eagle Owls and they were a mouthy lot. Still, there are worse tunes to keep you awake. As an aside, they did all shut up when a massive storm hit with very heavy rain, thunder, lightening and the works and when we drove out of the hills along a track the next morning, it collapsed under us where it had been weakened by the rain and the car (a Land Cruiser) fell off and landed on it's side and only just stopped going over again - the recovery took the rest of the day but we were back on the road the next morning

We've moved on from St Agnes to Padstow and are now set up at Dennis Cove. Excellent site but quite expensive at £44.50 a night, albeit the sanitary facilities are all excellent and fairly new. It's been sunny most of the time but very windy and Mrs Ayjay found it quite cold so we decided to take a pitch in the the lower part of the site which meant foregoing the excellent views out to the Camel Estuary that are to be had further up (hence, no photo). As often happens with Cornwall, the weather forecast is changing all the time so we will decide where next in the morning - either back home in Gloucestershire or North Devon.

It's that time of year again.

Just the brake fluid to pay on top of the all-in-one plan (hopefully!).

It's the last service under the AiO, I'll be looking at Service Plans and warranties after August. The Service Plan I can delay until Black Friday, will probably do the same with a VW Warranty.

A nice bronze Leisuredrive Crusader also in, and lots of Crafters with at least one camper.

I’m just looking at the C&CC and C&MC offers for recovery to replace the AIO cover, currently 33% off RAC arrival cover for C&CC members

Aaaaaaaand........

It failed 😭
Broken front spring.

As it is not OEM, so not covered by All-in-One, quoted £450 to replace.

I think thats one spring only! Which would leave me lopsided.

So, calling CRS tomorrow, looks like another trip to Cannock.

I had a broken rear spring a month or so ago, mega expensive for a new VW spring, about £200 for just spring ( T32), plus the labour, I would highly recommend people buy a used set when they come up for sale on the forum, so you have one ready to fit when one goes pop, I’ve got a full suspension kit ready now, cost £50

Try and make it Tuesdays or Fridays, I can help you drink Steve's beverage selection! £450 ridiculous price!
