What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Got my two Audi A6 S-line seats fitted up front. Driver's one is static and passenger one swivels on a lowered Clearcut base. I like how they look and they're very comfy. We might try one trip with this set up before commiting to selling the double seat.
There were a cheap buy from a breaker's yard so still need a good clean and some conditioning.
Now I just need to work out what's going to sit between the seats; probably some form of storage +/- somewhere for the dog to lie.

Whilst driver's seat was off I was able to change my leisure battery for a Roamer lithium one. Staightforward swap and easy to update the different chargers I'm using. Also managed to get the app working from my headunit for monitoring.

I've been mulling getting a new headunit to replace my startline spec one for a while, and considered a Kenwood/Panasonic option for a while.

Decided to give these a go after seeing reasonable prices and good reviews.

I have to say I'm very impressed. Their pre-purchase advice was good and responsive, and they took time to answer all my questions. I ended up going for the 6gb version with vehicle loom and external mic which came to a total of £250. For that it comes with a free reversing camera.

The unit was very easy to fit. Everything worked straight away with no issues. It is very responsive with no lag. Wireless android auto has worked every time and connects quickly. The unit has great functionality; it has kept my rear parking sensor function, it shows door open warnings, it can display vehicle data such as battery voltage, fuel tank status, speed etc.

It has turned out to be much bettet than what I expected for the price, and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

It's this one

Awesome, thanks. Which version did you guys go for, is it the 4gb or 6gb?
I think mine is the 6gb - I don't think it matter really as I won't be adding much to the device. Apps aren't a massive drain on the memory.

I want for the highest capacity one. My thinking was that it was still a lot cheaper than mainstream units, and if I bought a cheaper one and it was laggy I would only regret it.

Just finished winter van project. When I converted the van I included a third travel seat. 3 years later on our Autumn Euro trip came to the conclusion the 3rd seat was wasted space that could be better used. In that time never carried a passenger and especially towards the end of trip with several cases of wine and beer etc there was stuff stashed behind, down the side, on top of the seat. Seat now replaced with a bench seat, which is not a travel seat, but has several advantages. 1 Comfortable lounging seat. 2 Extra storage underneath. 3 Gives a sleeping option other than the roof bed, for stormy weather or overnight stops when we want a quick start in the morning. 4 No need to carry the folding camp table as made legs for the seat base which is removable. 5 saved some weight as lighter than original seat.
Made a wooden mock up first to confirm sizes/position etc. Frame welded from 25mm steel tube, then powder coated. Used 18mm board for the bases. Seat cushions custom cut by G B Foam direct and has the fire safety specs, upholstered by a local company. Alu tube/ adjustable feet/ inserts for bed and table legs from Ross Handling . From bits left over made a small storage unit for between the front seats.
Mrs Vanderlust has claimed the new lounging seat but I’m fine stretching out across the front seats (I know my place). IMG_0193.webpIMG_0482.webpIMG_0509.webpIMG_0504.webpIMG_0490.webp
Next job pack van/trailer for winter spring trip, ferry to Holland week on Tuesday.

Put my big boy pants on and attempted 3 stage sound deadening on the doors and fit the new speakers, tweeters and sub/amp.

Sound deadening complete, 8" door speakers complete.
Ran out of time, patience, day light and sweary words do do the rest.

So, after doing the driver's side, approx 3hrs, fitted the speaker, tested it, I then stood back and admired my technical brilliance.
I then spent 30 minutes questioning the parentage of the door card, took for ever in a day to get it back in place. Might have something to do with all the acoustic foam I stuck on the inside.

Anyway, onto the passenger side, feeling confident that I done one side, it was reminiscent of building a wardrobe from IKEA, once you done the 1st one, the second usually takes half the amount of time.

Everything off, drilled out the old speaker, sound deadened the door, door skin, acoustic foam on the door card, fitted speaker, again questioned the parentage of the passenger side door card.
Stood back, admired my technical brilliance.

Thought I'd go for a test drive to see the difference.
Mmmmm, only drivers side working.

Got back, door card off, removed the speaker to find that my technical brilliance wasn't so brilliant as I forgot to plug the connectors in.
Tested it, funnily enough it worked.

Another fight with the door card ensued, this time it was being referred to as the female genitalia.

Went for another test run, by fook it's loud.
Rest of the installation may happen over the weekend.

The moral of the story, before standing back and looking like a smug b*****d, admiring your technical brilliance, remember to connect the speaker first.
