What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

True. But as far as I am aware it is illegal to drive a vehicle on public roads that have their emissions control units disabled - please correct if wrong. Then one might consider what one's insurance position would be re driving and illegal vehicle on a public highway. I am no fan of all the emissions control stuff but .....!

As long as your van has a mot it is legal to drive on the road and your insurance is valid.
If the EGR is left in place it will pass the mot

I would continue and have it replaced and stay legal, absolutely agree with what you have said and not to tamper or delete the ad-blue either. :)

It is indeed unlawful.

However, the odds of being caught are slim.

Im not a fan of such fiddling either. Such kit is there for a reason and if people cant afford to maintain a vehicle properly they should drive something else instead.

That said, while its not something id ever consider I'm not going to get all preachy over it if someone goes that route. Just dont expect any sympathy from me in the (unlikely) event of being caught.

Not exactly true, it simply means it was legal on the tested elements at the time of the test. It could be illegal on the drive home and as we all know an insurance company may well use that as an excuse not to pay out. As Sasquatch says, that’s unlikely though for EGR. Unless potentially if you get pulled at a VOSA checkpoint I suppose.

Who cares when you can save yerself some £££££££££££££££££££££!!!
And to be clear, this won’t void insurance and if nothing is removed, not illegal or dangerous

Well after I went down the good boy route of paying for the EGR to be replaced twice. When it failed for the 3rd time I opted for the bad boy route.
My T5.1 has ran great ever since. That was years and years ago.
So after learning my lessons from the T5.1 I wasn’t mucking about with the T6.
First bit agro from the EGR and its mapped out.
I won’t look back.
Strapping that crap to the diesel engine was the worst thing ever to happen to the diesel engine.

I had mine mapped out after reading all about the EGR being the reason for the premature death of the 204 CXEB engine. Whilst I can afford to maintain my van, I can't justify £15k just on a matter of principle. I can have it mapped back in if I need to for any future more stringent emissions checks.

Although they are very effective at reducing NOx emissions, so they are a very good thing in thet regard.

Its rather VWs woeful execution than anything inherently wrong with EGRs per se.

Exactly this

Not done to the van as such, but wandered the 1/4 mile to the nearest MOT place to book it in. Booked in for a Class 4 test with zero argument.

I like them but they've gotta wait. Took the rear door seal off yesterday and found it was stuck on with mastic, lazy lot coud've just pinched it together like I have. Took abot two hours to clean the muck off the seal and van and my chosen deodorant was white spirit and it still lingers. Off to Weymouth now to enjoy the beach.
