What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Made a shelter for the tailgate to give us a bit more room to get changed/prepare food/knock up drinks. Just needs some velcro sewn on to keep the door closed but other than that really pleased. All from a cheap tarp, some eyelets added, red gaffer tape and some magnetic hooks. View attachment 287997

First thing that came to my head was ' clever use if a tarp' second thing sprung to mind was 'i wish someone had (badly) wrapped me a Transporter for my birthday'

I’ve fitted the Vamoose awning rail this morning (black on black is not easy to take a photo of), now waiting on the postman to deliver the QuickPop straps for the pop top so I can get those done this afternoon.

Did you strip the whole thing down to leave the ali naked? What type of paint did you use to refinish it in?
Yeah i stripped the whole thing down. Had to drill the rivets out to strip it. Luckily with it being a Thule rack, the main frame is already black so didn't need to do that.

I gave all the aluminium and good clean, then a rub down with some scotch pad and brake cleaner. Used an acid etch primer, then Simonz satin black paint. Had turned out really well. How long it'll last is anyone guess, but I'm happy to touch it up omwhe needed.

You'll need some 6.4mm black rivets and a large rivet gun to put the rack back together.

Dropped the Caravelle of for its service and MOT under the All In - blimey has year really gone past
So the good news is I got the Caravelle back today because some rattling dash trim was replaced under the All In warranty (hence delay)

Bad news is at 4 years and 43,000 the ex dealer demo and fully VW dealer maintained engine has the dread note "crankshaft seal leaking"....

Which seems rather early?

It's only bad news if it's not covered by warranty, surely?
Otherwise it's an inconvenience.
