What Have You Bought Today?

I must admit I was surprised it happened. I had previously sprayed some WD 40 on the catch probably last year somewhen. I regularly checked oil, water and topped up screen wash it always opened and closed normally.

Its the little lever part you move with your finger under the bonnet that then allows the bonnet to open. Any stickyness (is that even a word?) with that needs to be addressed.

The main thing is, no bertrums were harmed

Not long after I got my van, I noticed that the 'safety catch' was doing it's job and on investigation found that the whole catch wasn't quite straight - I bent it back into place and it's been good ever since. I was however surprised at how soft the metal was when I bent it back into shape. - cheapo VW crap basically.

Not good, had it happen years ago on a customers old Renault Laguna. Hit 40mph and up she went. Luckily we got away with only a bonnet. What was very annoying was the fact I'd only done the rear wheel bearing and not been under the bonnet. Turns out the customer had been fiddling with the catch.

Anyway, out of curiosity is the bonnet safety catch seized?? That in theory is designed to stop this happening. Worth checking on this car and all future cars.
I saw it happen once to a colleague in a Rover 825 police car. He practically leaped out the window in his doomed effort to prevent the inevitable and we did titter quite a bit.

IMG_0325.webpChanging the cool white lights for warm white and a bit less chrome as it suit the interior colour scheme better. It seems that I can have all the camper part lights on or none so swapping for touch switch dimmable. Still need to make the kitchen area led string independent of roof and reading lights to. Cheapo Amazon mini kitchen set and tableware just because…..

Some AdBlue from Aldi as it is only £10 for 10 litres at the moment
Same here, the Kodiaq needed topping up at the right time. No signs of the T6 needing a top up and I don't know the shelf life of Adblue otherwise I would've bought another 10L.

EcoFlow 3 delta plus (upgrading from EcoFlow river 2)
Kickass 12/24v hub
Flat mount rooftop Starlink mini mount
Strong black coffee to settle the nerves after all that expense.
You should worry - just think of the stress you're causing your bank manager!!

On the topic of stuff opening when catches give way (be that a bonnet or a poptop) - scary stuff! The forces involved are pretty high. The air accelerates the bonnet from 0 to 70mph (relative to the car) in say 0.2 s. For a 20kg bonnet, this is 3100 N of force. That’s a torque of at least 1550 NM on the hinge. I’d say the car is pretty strong to have the bonnet even stay attached.

I’m off to grease the catches on my daughters old car now…

Visited Ovano

To have my purchase fitted.

Josh and his Team custom built me a drawer and shelving unit based on his switch XL design for my dog cage.

I can’t recommend the guys highly enough…. Great to deal with from start to finish.

If anybody is thinking about purchasing off them I would say go for it …. The build quality is second to none!
