Webasto Auxiliary Heater - customizing

However, it's claimed that an(other) overhead controller is still needed --> Webasto Auxiliary Heater - customizing which I find a kind of strange because the overhead controller is not wired to Webasto but 08-HVAC.
I am afraid that the claim is correct.
While with the firmware mod you can run the Webasto out of a Telestart and/or a panel, you still need to run the van fans. And there comes the 08-HVAC and a suitable panel.

I’m a bit confused here. This wasn’t what Eugene demonstrated in his video ?
It shows the fans auto starting at a predetermined water temp.

You should ask Eugene, really.
My understanding is that his solution needs a specific overhead panel. We alre talking about a T6.1, as I understand, in your (and my) case.

Ok I need to go back and rewatch the video.

I’m quite happy to buy and install the receiver it’s just the flashing I’m not confident with. The coding I’m happy to try but there are several boxes need ticking and getting it right would be guesswork.

Mine is a California so no option to fit any other panels. We need a Norwegian member with a similar van.

Apologies if this has been added before.
Just translate it.
Some good stuff about making the heater controllable from the dash screen.

I'm afraid the software still is the issue.

The software reflash will work on your heater hardware.

Thank you very much. Well, it seems that the adaptions of 08-HVAC are the same as for factory installed parking heater.
However, there are some coding differences between yours (having both 18 & 800B) and vans having parking heater (18) only.

Would be interesting to know how the differences are labeled in VCDS.
Could you please make screenshots (Alt-PrintScreen) of 08-HVAC coding - bytes of 08-HVAC bytes 1, 6, 22.

One more question.

Once all of the flashing/coding etc is done and remote installed etc, is the system still overruled by the <5deg parameter or, could you fire the heater up in the height of summer should you wish to?

Can anyone confirm if you need the overhead controller to make this work.

I am just trying to add the raido remote.

So far I will need to re flash the heater install the telstart model and add a relay to the blower to make them work but do i need to add an over head control 🤔

I have a Webasto parking/auxiliary heater, an overhead timer/controller and a remote controller from factory on my 2016 T6.

So far I’ve disabled the automatic auxiliary heating function, which would turn the heater on automatically when the temperature is below a certain setpoint. I did this as some of my trips are so short that I don’t necessarily want the heater to kick in just for a couple of minutes. I’ve also coded the coolant change-over valve as not installed to warm both the engine and the cabin.

Lately, it’s been as low as -20 degrees celsius at where I live. During this time, I usually turn the Webasto on ~30 minutes before departure. After I turn the car on and start driving, the heater seems to stay on for as long as I keep on driving, which is good.

Now, after I shut the car off, I can see ”10 MIN” on the overhead controller. I assume that this means that the parking heater will be on for 10 minutes after the car has been shut off, and after that time the heater goes off too.

What I’d like to know is that is there a way to extend this default 10 minute time somehow using VCDS for example? I’d much rather have it run for example 30 minutes after the car has been shut off, and decrease the time by hand from the overhead controller if needed.

Just a bit more on this. I had my T6.1 Cali flashed remotely yesterday by a chap in Germany.
All now works as it should.
Aux water heater is selectable via the overhead screen and comes on with the remote independently of the engine running.
20 mins for a nice warm cabin.
Perfect.

The Telstar lt overrules the temps so will start whenever it’s commanded to by the remote unless the coolant is already at operating temperature. You can use it on a nice warm day or a cold day to suit your need. I left the below 5 degrees enabled as well so if I haven’t used the remote to pre warm the van then the heater will kick in still on those cold days at start up.

Hello friends,my dongle is currently in Northern Ireland.I've now remotely flashed the auxiliary heater for two people on the island. Both have T6.1 models from 2020 onwards with an air heater. They didn't have to modify anything. If a remote control is already installed, it can also be used for the water heater. If anyone else would like a flash, feel free to message me on the TX board. All you need is a laptop with Windows 10/11 and my dongle. I'll do the rest from home.If no one gets in touch within a week, the dongle will be sent back to Germany.Have a good evening,Fite

I’ll answer my own question in case it helps somebody else. I found the solution with VCDS.

In controller 6E (Ctrl Head Roof, 7E5 919 037 G), the adaptation channel 01 (undocumented) had a value of 10 of type ”Clock”. Increasing this to 20 for example made the overhead controller start the Webasto shutdown countdown from ”20 MIN” after I shut down the car itself, so this is exactly what I was looking for.

Hello Guys. I would like to retrofit the over head control modul. Could you help me with the part number of the wiring harness needed?

Hi Guys,

I am planning to upgrade my Thermo Top Evo with VAG flashfile method. FL_7E0963273A__0009.frf to FL_7E0963272B__0009.frf or FL_7E0963272C__0009.frf...
I was under the impression that this would allow me to buy just a wiring harness for Climatic and the Webasto Multi Control Car SW and connect it all to my 2nd batterie.

Now someone told me that the VAG Flashfile method is only working if i use the Telestart Receiver + the Keyfob but not with the Multi Control Car SW, is this correct?

Webasto Thermo Top Evo Aufrüstsoftware VW Nutzfahrzeuge

I am looking for this upgrade software which usually come as a CD with matching dongle.

It allows you to upgrade your Webasto Thermo Top Evo Auxiliary heater to a parking heater.
