Webasto Auxiliary Heater - customizing

Hi,
yesterday I tested Telestart module 3Q0963513 with VW T6 and it works properly, so if someone needs module paired with remote control transmitter tested with VW T6 Webasto Auxiliary Heater I have one (50Euro + shipping)

To use an existing auxiliary heater as parking heater you need:
  • Auxiliary Heater 7E0963273A
  • firmware FL_7E0963272B__0009.frf
  • vas5054A and ODIS or VCP
  • Telestart with LIN [ 5Q0 963 513 A, 3Q0963513 (new remote) ]
  • new coding in Address 18: Aux. Heat (J364) Labels:| 7E0-963-27X-18.c Coding: 5001 <- new coding (old was 4101)
That's all.

Good morning, I have a 2016 VW T6 with an additional Thermo Top Evo to warm up the engine in low temperatures.
I have installed a multicontrol (remote control) and tried to configure it with the OBD, but the brand tells me that I have to update the webasto in an official webasto workshop.
How did you make it work?
This won't work. T6 Evo is using Lin bus.
You either reflash the Evo with wbus firmware (like was instructed) or install original vw overhead control panel.
IIf you reflash, you will need a different Telestart unit and a different remote control (non-vw).

Hello guys...
My aux heater update on T6.1 was on hold for a while... :)
I am still trying to figure out what to do. I did a little research and here I have a question:
If I fit original overhead display unit 7LA907049G, do I have to code or flash anything or it will work out of the box?
Is wiring already present at overhead trim?

THX!

VW don't put any additional wiring in .so no wires in console.
Just get one of the kits ,they come with timer or phone app ,

To be able to complete the Telestart install on T6.1 you will need:
1. TS receiver
2. TS remote
3. [not mandatory] The upgraded overhead remote control as you pointed out.
Yes, coding of the overhead panel is required.
Also, a reflash is needed, 5WA963272C is the right sw. 5WA963272A might not work. I currently only have 5WA963272A, still looking for 5WA963272C.

The telestart unit is wired like in T6.

The professional retrofit guys are telling me that they can do it without the overhead display unit. BUT I don't yet know how to make it happen.
I am looking for a T6.1 where this was done successfuly so that we can all see how it's been coded.

If you don't have an overhead unit already, you will need to guide the new wiring there.

There are no vw kits available (I do have a spare Telestart kit though).
The only plug-n-play kit is the one from DanHag.

So no shortcuts even with OEM overhead display unit.
THX for help.
I guess I will finally end up with DANHAG...

There's a shortcut, unfortunately not yet publicly shared
So yes, Danhag is probably the best way for a person who is not willing to go into the detail and fuss

Just to derail a bit, is it possible with some wizzardry to activate heated mirrors when webasto is started? After following this guide i added telestart and added the wire needed to get the interior fan going when the coolant temp reaches 60c as i coded it with vcds.

Someone messaged me asking for details on the blower wiring for Climatic air-conditioning. I'll post it here in case anyone else is interested in the future.

On the factory setup, the blower is controlled by the auxiliary heater using relay J8.

Unfortunately though, the wiring from the auxiliary heater to T17p connector didn't exist (on my van at least). I didn't fancy having to run this wire under the van to the heater, so instead I connected the relay coil to pin 3 of the Telestart receiver. This pin gives +12V when the heater is switched on. Which means the blower comes on immediately when the heater is starting up, whereas on the factory setup the blower doesn't start until the cooling water reaches something like 40 degrees. But I can live with this for the amount of hassle it saved.

The output contact of the relay needs to be supplied by a 30A fused supply from your leisure battery (it will drain your starter battery in no time). I ran 4mm2 wire from the relay to the back of the air conditioning control panel, and spliced this into the yellow/orange wire (important: this must be a good quality splice connector, a high resistance connection will cause issues due to the high current). See the drawing below.

Regarding coding, I had to keep it so that the heater thinks the blower is started via CAN bus. The heater is smart enough to detect that hardwired connection from the heater to relay J8 is not connected, and this blocks the heater from starting.
Hello, taking this old thread as I have a similar solution in mind, simulating the relais J8 which is not in my car and trigger it with the webasto "blower on" signal which I have, but also sourced by the leisure battery. Is it not a problem that I might have two sources switched together with different voltage at the N24 pin, voltage from leisure batt. and voltage from J301 simultaneously, if the ignition is on and blower switched to blower step 2?

Hi, I have controller number 5Q0963513A. Which of these files should I import to upgrade the heater to a full Webasto?
