Why you should never take down the ceiling in an older house...20200408_200240.jpg

The ceiling was always going to come down but to go through the Sharknado of a dismantled lath and plaster ceiling explosion and reveal the wiring congealed behind has been epic, thankyou Convict 99 for allowing the extra time to undertake such a wonderful days work.o_O

One of those jobs where the clean up afterwards takes longer than the job itself.

As I said it was going to come down eventually as part of a kitchen/ whole house refresh but a 22mm push fit elbow on the new heating return let go this morning with a tell tale golden piss stain on the ceiling above the boiler, pulling down a shed load of wattle and daub left loads of access!
Yes, the mess was horrible with the lath going down the garden, waiting for the next bonfire and the lime plaster going on the broken concrete pile in the front yard waiting for the grab lorry.

Pulling down old ceilings, possibly covered in artex with asbestos in if you are really lucky and full of xx years of dust, dirt and god knows what all falling on your head! Still prefer it to decorating though!

Never used to mind pulling a downstairs L&P ceiling but an upstairs one with a loft above is another matter grey slate dust is awful and all the shite people put between joists we once had a loaded hand gun fall out
