Tantallon Castle Scrape

This is a long shot.
My white camper was scraped while parked at Tantallon castle, North Berwick on Sunday.
Bloke didn't leave details but a couple of VW transporter/ caravelle guys took photos and told me about it. How they knew i had a VW among all the other visitors is beyond me.
I waited in the carpark until bloke appeared.
He was very apologetic, probably because he'd been caught, and gave me his details.
I've had a friend give a quote of £140 for the repair and emailed the guy who said it was to expensive for the small damage.
I'm now going to go official via insurance, he'll regret not taking the offer as I doubt an insurance body shop will be as cheap.
Thing is, I forgot to get the details of the guys who saw it happen.
Would it by any chance be someone from this forum? Would you dm me your details if it was?
Like I say, a long shot.

Was it on private or public land? Do you have the reg number? Maybe worth calling 101 as well and report the incident. If the other guy doesn’t report it too then it’s a possible 3 pointer and fine for leaving the scene and another 3 for not reporting :grin bounce::grin bounce::grin bounce:
Try a FB appeal for the witnesses?

Tantallon castle car park which I'm guessing is historic Scotland parking. I've got the guys name and number and it's going through the insurance process now. It was more for the witnesses details. Never thought about FB or Twitter. I'll give that a try.

Another idea might be to check Instagram for photos tagged at that location, that day. That might lead you back to them.

Did matey-boy have much damage to his motor? Because if he has a touch of seconds and decides to make it your word against his, then the presence / absence of damage to his might be what it boils down to.

Like @Wills says, get it reported. You can do all that online, these days.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

He emailed saying he was sorry and thought £140 was to expensive for the little bit of paint damage. I've forwarded the emails to the insurance as it's as good as admitting he's at fault. Will keep you posted.

This’ll be where the insurer comes back and adds another zero to your original amount :p

A girl clouted the side of my daughter's Punto when I was driving it - I offered to do it for £150. Idiot turned it down saying it was too much so I had to go the insurance route - quote was for over £500! Thought that I was trying it on even though I gave her the listing and price for the wing and minimal claim for my time .So she lost her no claims and got heftier premiums for the sake of that £150. Some people don't have a clue!

Albeit some people simply don’t have that sort of cash. Therefore saying do it through insurance, despite an increased cost for the repair, and an increased premium, is their only way of actually doing it. There are many people who are broke by the time all of their living costs/ standing orders/ direct debits have been removed from their account the day after they have been paid.
So whilst on some occasions it may be muppetry, on others it is lack of any other option.

Yep according to Forbes.com 78% of workers (possibly in America) live paycheck to paycheck.

A wee update. Turns out the bloke is a professor of microbiology and not the idiot he made out to be. Maybe brains and no commonsense.
Van is away for specialist repair because it's a camper. Don't know what difference that makes to the van bumper but hey ho.
Also been given a Vauxhall vivaro van as a courtesy car until mines returned. Told them I didn't need a van and small car would do but insurance insisted on like for like. Van isn't a camper so it's nothing like for like. Blokes excess will be well and truly burst.

When mine had to go in for a repair to a scratched front wing they wanted to send it miles away to a motorhome specialist. I said there was no need as nothing motorhome damage related and I wanted to take it to my local VW commercial centre a few miles away and they said fine.

I did say to the insurance that it was just a bumper on a van and nothing special but they insisted. I also said I didn't need a courtesy car but again they insisted. I even pointed out that my policy only includes a small car and not a vehicle of similar size but they wouldn't listen. Can only assume they make a lot of money out of it all. No wonder insurance is so expensive.

They figure the other guys insurance company are going to have to pick up all the bills so they aren’t too worried by the costs.
