Tailgate Light Trigger

I’m starting my rear light set up, I have my “work” area in the back with the bulkhead. What I would like is the LEDS just to come on when I open the tailgate only, is there a feed or do I just fit a trigger switch ? Many thanks

As a trigger you could take advantage of tailgate state switches (open/ajar/closed) - at 17-pin connector in the roof by left D-pillar, pins 9 and/or 10 carry the status (-VE when tailgate open). However, as also the BCM monitors those switches (using PWM signal) some brainwork is definitely recommended before splicing into the circuit.

Or, you could just use a tilt-switch in series.

theres a 2.5A non-mercury but its a bit expensive at £30, I would think 1A is enough for your LEDs?
