Weird Numberplate light issue [Resolved]

My number plate lights don’t work with the lights on.
When I open the tailgate, for the few seconds the latch is energised the number plate lights come on then go off.
Any thoughts or suggestions are very welcome

That sounds a bit weird, I would hazard a guess that you have a bad earth somewhere and the lights are earthing through the latch while it’s engaged

As it's a tailgate might be worth a good check of the wiring between body and tailgate, see if anything has been pinched or broken.

Quite possible, I’ve been stripping out the rac stuff.

Ok, checked the wires through the tailgate and all seemed fine.
Cleaned and re- fitted the earth and all is working.

Hi Mike, where was the earth that you cleaned? I’ve a similar problem on my t6.1 tailgate
