T6.1 wireless charging retrofit?

Its a real PITA to get out, theres a special tool to release them and have seen others mention in the past they managed to get them out without the tool but i just cut the plastic on one side to release it from the old trim then ditched the old trim, not like its ever going to get refitted
Thanks I did wonder that but wanted to check before thanks for the quick reply

I was going to splice into the cigar power plug from behind rather run a wire direct to the fuse box do I put in fuse in the only issue I have is the trim is a pain to get out each time

you were are right its a PITA I got it out by cutting but now realise there a there are a couple of lugs marked on the photo if slightly bent out will allow the middle metal section to come out and then the black bit can be removed

Basic parts required from VW
7L2857920 82V £15.63 + vat outer plastic trim
7L2857494 82V £9.81 + vat inner plastic trim
4B0971978B £2.32 + vat connector housing

Wireless pad options from ebay or similar
5NA980611 wireless interface module, seem to average around £50 on ebay
5NA980611A this is an alternative wireless pad without the aerial connector so wireless charging only, no GSM

Before everyone rushes out and orders parts I will add that i ordered a couple modules and connectors when i started this so will have bits left over, i have since ordered a few extra sets of parts from VW and a few more connectors so when im done i will a couple kits for people ready to fit with wiring made up and terminated, these will be at cost price + postage if anyone is interested, these can be charging only or i can do one kit ready for the GSM aerial if anyone wants to try that aspect ?
Hey Pauly,

Did you happen to sell all the parts you needed for this project? Looking at doing it in my t6.1. I'm in Australia though. So working out the best economical way of getting all the parts. Thanks!

Sorry to drag up this old thread but this is exactly what I’m looking for, for my T6.1. @Pauly are you still willing/able to get the trim parts below or am I advised to just wander into my dealer and ask them to order them? Thank you.

Hello everyone. I’m struggling with the informant pins.. I have the discovery pro 2021 T6.1 and I have something in pin 5. So am lost as to where to insert the informant wires. Also how do you get the fuse box out to fit the fuse repair wire? Cheers

Made a classic mistake. I was looking at the connector in the back of the display screen.. mistake 2 was buying eBay Chinese special wire loom, must be a brake in the wire somewhere. Stripped the stumpy wires that came with the wireless charger and rigged to a 12v battery and it all started working.

Hi @Pauly, just wanted to give this post a little bump 😬
Can you let me know if you still willing/able to get the trim parts needed for the wireless charging or am I advised to just wander into my dealer and ask them to order them? Thanks.

I got my parts from here. Van Parts Direct VW Transporter 2020 Onwards Stowage Compartment Panel (Titan Black) | Genuine VW Commercial Parts
You will need the charger unit. I got mine from eBay. Part numbers are in the thread and depend if you want just charging or charging plus signal boost.

I dont really deal with parts that much anymore mate, probably quicker and easier if you try your dealer or order online

Well, I got the wireless charger up and running at last and it’s charging my iPhone brilliantly. I bought the kit from @Adeheath (thank you Adrian 🙏) and it included a genuine VW charger (without signal booster) It came with only 3 wires for the charger so I took a feed from the cigarette lighter for live and neutral and the extra signal(?) wire went to pin 11 of the T12n connector of the stereo. I’m not entirely sure what the connection to the stereo is supposed to do as I don’t get any messages on the display, but if a job’s worth doing……

Really happy with the results.

Soooo i've tried this, fitted it all, got it wired in and it charges, stops, charges, stops, charges stops, I've tried a couple phones and it does the the same on all of them... whats the chances the module is the issue? I'm 99.9% sure the wiring is right

Loosing the will to live with this...

I am looking at doing this, forgive my ignorance but other than it is an 'OEM install' what is the benefit of using the OEM charger, versus say buying a wireless charger pad / circuit board and hard wiring it?

Ignore the above, did it OEM today, easy mod!

Any idea how much current it pulls when off, when connected to the cig lighter feed?
