T6.1 SOS fault.

A new battery wont repair faulty software.

They're all of a similar age, and theyre all dropping during a sudden cold snap. Doesnt seem mysterious to me.
I get that, my mate works at vw and has told me, that the batteries should be changed every 5 years...

this many people needing batteries all at once is too much coincidence for me, i say its a software issue
This is exactly what I was told,,,, and it can't be any coincidence that VW sent out an email recently, about this issue?

I have had no email from vw about either of my vans needing a software update as yet....i think it's possibly both...

On the T6.1 Facebook page they seem to be suggesting it’s actually a connectivity issue as 3G has been switched off and 2G is rapidly disappearing. There is a software update apparently

Local TPS said they had none and they were on national back order at the moment. Chap on the phone suggested it was due to a materials shortage in Ukraine. Think they quoted me around £86 as well
Think I got lucky then....i know the bloke said they had 2 but expected them to be gone by end of the day

The email sent out by VW to me (and others), read that it was a software issue, as you said, with 3G 2G being "switched off". However, scanning tells me that it's the flat battery to blame.
My local VW centre (Sinclair Cardiff) when I contacted them said they couldn't book my van in until some time next April, but were quick to tell me that it wouldn't fail on the MOT, which, in my case, expires the end of March. There was no mention of a battery supply problem, or any issues pertaining to these batteries what so ever?

The email tells me theyre having to alter the software as the 2G and 3G data signals have been/are being deactivated.

Nowhere does the email suggest the software issue is to address any kind of fault or indicated fault.

The email starts; A new software update is available for your VW vehicle (id number), because of the 2G and 3G networks being switched off.

Has anyone else who has receive this same email for their van, have, or been able to install this new software, which, without this update "there may be restrictions to the mobile online services and Emergency Call Service"???

Thats it! No mention of being to correct any faults or to correct battery error messages.

Im hoping Pauly is correct and the update will sort itself out.

Hi

I have looked in the forum on threads with SOS faults, and also I have used Carista to look at any fault codes and have the attached the two it found.

Looking at them it looks like the battery backup has failed and I assume that this is the issue with the SOS module.

Assuming that this is not covered by warranty, where is this battery located and how easy is it to get to / swap out and will it need recoding once swapped.

Advice appreciated

Hi had the same problem, spoke to VW battery totally out of stock of batteries £120 + VAT, MODULE £1700 + VAT, Batteries are on back order for 3 months, got the exact same one from Alibaba I know sounds daunting but was £33 delivered to the door including shipping only took a week to arrive, see images new one and original one, easy enough to change trim off around clocks two screws hold clocks in, pull out one wire plug and sos module sits behind, batteries located in the module under screwed cover on back. Half an hour job max
ALL FIXED hope this thread helps

Did it need a recoding, VW said they would have to run something for it to recognise the battery change ?
