T6.1 roof box solution?

I have a Multivan T6.1 which I absolutely love. Now I’m looking for a suitable roof box solution for more storage (bags, but also skiing equipment). I’m absolutely new to roof boxes and such, and I have a couple of questions that I hope someone could help me out with;

1) I have no roof rails/racks, but I need this to be able to attach a roof box, right? Or are there roof boxes that can fit directly on the roof?

2) Does anyone have any good advise on actual models/combinations? (Rack+box). I’d like to keep the height as low as possible but the loading capacity (area) as large as possible.

3) How do you actually access a roof box on top of a Multivan? From the side door? Or should I get one of those boot ladders?

Maybe a tailgate bike rack with a storage bag would be easier to fit and access , also less drag, there are purpose made luggage bags that fit the tailgate bike racks and secondhand racks are always available
