The lack of a footrest in the T6.1 is an issue for me as it causes an issue in my left knee to be exacerbated and proven on my 3500 mile trip to/around/back from Europe. I've seen lots of comments on how you adapted after 20 mins or a day etc so this thread isn't for you.

I scoured ebay and the net for VW/Audi etc footrests that were hollow on the back. Eventually found this.

Bent over a scrap piece of metal and played around with the angle

Then used some fibreglass to bond it to the footrest. This piece just so happened to have lots of holes in it so saved me drilling holes to allow the fibreglass to ooze through them and make a stronger bond.

The "side" is covered in tape to block the holes and then super strong velcro was used so it attaches to the tunnel side.

It is adjustable to can be moved around to suit the driver accordingly and also rubber mats slot around it without needing to be trimmed.

Due to a bent and buckled left leg, I really need a footrest in my t6.1 !!! I wonder why no aftermarket item is available? No disrespect to the aforementioned solution, but I need something solid.
Worth mentioning; My 10 year old 200k mile Caddy 140 HL is of higher build quality to my senses than my t6.1 and it has a footrest. A little disappointed but still enjoying the new van even though it’s definitely not as comfortable as the Caddy
Any one help? Anyone know of an aftermarket item? Or do VW now provide a extra?

my home made one is solid, however to make it solid the way you suggest would need it fixing to the van which wouldnt be too challenging. just wasnt a need for me andhaving it removeable on the velcro works perfect.

I made something very simple using a block of Buffalo Board / birch ply and 50mm self adhesive Velcro. It is working well for me, so far,a very solid fix to the carpet, actually quite hard to pull off! I might add a widener set parallel to the floor.
