T5.1 caravelle central locking

Ok so my 5.1 velle has given up on the central locking, for the last 6 months I’ve been using a coded key having to unlock the door, turn the ignition to deactivate the alarm then lock and unlock the drivers door.
Now it’s just gone dead, no central locking, no switch working from the door pillar. Nothing.
Any suggestions where to start please.
I’ve tested some of the electrics in the drivers door and currently no live running to the locking switch.

Forgot to say all the doors unlock when I turn the ignition now, but this has been intermittent

Sounds like a wiring problem between the A pillar and the drivers door - how many miles on the ‘velle?

OK - so you might want to consider trouble shooting the loom section that goes from the door to the A piller.

If you have a few days for the van to be out of action you can remove the loom and bench test it - replacing anything that’s dodgy with a new section of wire spliced in - either mix and match wiring you already have spare or think about getting matching colour coded wires from somewhere like this:

You need to splice in a new section of wire for each dodgy bit. The crease that caused the fatigue in the old wires happened where the breaks and cracks are.

Cut the old wire back so the joints for the splices are not in the target zone for the fatigue problem.

Put a piece of plastic flexi tubing over it also to protect it from further rubbing. Glad you found the problem though.

You could buy a second hand door and take the loom but there is always the same risk

Yeah, seems there ain’t many looms available all seem to be a passenger side. And definitely not many with power mirrors and all the bells and whistles

Just found another fault now, that when I lock the doors the Led blinks then stays on solid. Is this a problem ?
