T30 (new Shape 2013) Turbo Issue...?

Just bought a T30 2013, (NEW SHAPE), was hoping people in this T6 forum could advise as it's similar van etc.

I bought it for £6900, 170k, 1 previous owner (leasing company), body is tidy and everything seemed fine.

3rd day driving it, not an issue at all, pulling well, was just driving on the motorway, and as we started to go up hill, it just seemed like the turbo stopped, from 78mph to about 60mpg to 55mph, I pulled into the left lane and a lorry overtook us, as we got to the top of the hill it went back to 75mph but as as got to another hill again is slowed right down, just no pull or power in the drive.

The glow plug was flashing, it was flashing the other day but went off till now.

Managed to get home ok, but just no pulling power.

Can anyone advise please?

Just read online it can go into 'limp' mode, and by turning engine ona nd off again it can reset it??

(UPDATE)

Just been out and it has now 'reset' itself, could this be a diognostic issue?

The way forward is to have read the recorded faults codes from the van. As there was flashing glow light, there definitely are fault code(s) recorded in the memory. The code usually gives a good pointer where the culprit is. I would say that a visit to an experienced garage is the way to gather more facts.

Yes, some of the detected faults force the van to go into limp mode thus reducing power, etc. to protect the engine. And, yes, turning off and on, forces the van to try to "recover" from possibly intermittent fault but it doesn't erase the fault code from memory. The flashing glow light indicates fault that requires pretty much immediate attention. The fault memory also collects lower priority faults that can be taken care of at next scheduled service, these are not indicated any way on the dash.

I would like to say the flashing glow light won't surface from just a random glitch, the fault behind is more or less permanent or very frequent.

As above the van needs to be plugged in to get an idea of what’s going on

Hi thanks for replies...

Not from auction no, from a trader, though he was more of a jack the lad, vest and muscles ha... Ex North Gate fleet van, FSH, well a print out on A4 with dayes from every 2 to 3 months, pretty solid looking...

My frined has a diog tool and will be plugging in this week, I have been driving but not ragging at all, keeping at 60mph on motorway to keep turbo cool for now.

Would you guys suggest a VW garage ?

The history print out is standard. Sounds like contacting the trader, vest and all, will probably be a waste of time then ?

Personally, I find indipendant garages a better bet, Vw specialist.

I'd hope it's nothing major anyway.. My frined is good with his diog tool and will know my next action.

So you mean go to an indi garage over a VW garage?

Voyager sounds like your turbo is over boosting. If you plug the diagnostics tool in and your mate reads it as you drive watch the boost level as you accelerate, if it goes above a certain level this will make it trip and go into limp mode. As above stopping and restarting resets the engine. When this happened to a Golf we had it needed a new turbo, might be time to find the chav in a vest.
Good luck Baz
