Suspension in Scotland

I am considering getting our T6 Caravelle lowered later this year - likely to be 30mm drop Eibach springs or 40mm H&R as I'm not sure I can justify £1,000+ for Bilsteins.

I will possibly add spacers at the same time to fill the arches better and whilst I could easily fit these myself, I won't do the springs myself and so might get spacers fitted by the garage at the same time as the so that the alignment can then be sorted by the suspension fitting dealer.

I've searched the forums but can't see any recommendations for this kind of work. Given the number of threads about alignment not being great and springs being incorrectly fitted or the wrong type being specced, I'm keen to find someone who knows what they are doing. I'll then get a couple of quotes.

Lookers in Ballieston, Glasgow have just serviced it and the service was fine (much better than the Lookers VW car dealer shambles that sold it to me) so I'll get a quote from them. I have also used Autohaus in Loanhead, Edinburgh for a car service before and they were okay (if not outstanding).

I live in central Scotland and travel to Aberdeen often, so Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh or anywhere in between would be good. Fire away...

Had mine lowered by lookers baillieston a month or so back. No issues - took 3 or 4 hours to complete. Looks a lot better even without spacers.

Looking to lower my T32 but not having much luck with garages for fitting in the Edinburgh area. Some won't touch, some are quoting £600 etc etc.

Any forum members know anywhere near me that is reasonable? Would even travel to the north east if it saves me money!

I'm Edinburgh based..and was recommended by a friend to speak to Colin Nicol who owns these two companys based in Calder..about 6 mins drive past Dalmahoy. Best guy in town. Check out Coco website. My van goes back in next week. Both businesses based at same location..Colin knows his Vans.

Thinking of adding Stance + as just bought 19 Amarok alloys so think normal ride height will be too much. Maybe only talking about 30-40 mm lower. Thoughts?

Not many of us about I think. Maybe us Scots should have a sub-forum just for Scotland - counties south of the border could have theirs.....just a thought.

@Ozbar jim - did you find the guys at the Calders (Calder Campers?) reasonable? They want about £400 to fit the Stance + if I supply.

If u want to meet..u can have a drive of my van with the stanced suspension on it..give u an idea if u want it? Its lowered 40mm. I've also got H&R arb's fitted too plus 20inch wheels too

Cheers. Sounds like a good idea. My T6 going into garage on Thursday - oil sensor warning light coming on. Off to Clark Commercial at Bilston. Don’t find them great but not much choice.

apologies for late reply.

Automek in East Kilbride came highly recommended to me. I spoke to them and their work vehicle is a T5 so used to suspension set ups on them.

they specialise in race cars etc so. Due to the current pandemic I could not make it down to them but well worth a chat to Andrew there.

If you can't find what you're looking for it's worth contacting @CRS Performance, I think they are happy to advise and mail order you a product for fitting at your local competent garage, that might be a good compromise for you.

Find a competent Mechanic VW specialist preferably , we can supply the goods free delivery to you or deliver to him direct . We can guide them through the process if they allow us ha ha

DJ Auto in Westhill are pretty decent in general.

However, make sure you tell them if its a T32, so they get the guy who knows how to do the front camber on the alignment, my mate had a bit of a faff with getting his done (CRS maybe remembers recently....) As the boy was a bit clueless, they got there in the end though. I fitted the STX kit for him, he was just needing alignment done, but they've definitely done other vans aswell.

If its a T28/T32, then you'll find it easier as they can't do anything with the front camber, so saves a heap of confusion.
