Side Bars What's the Point ?

Same for spoilers front and back, coloured grilles etc.
I think side bars make it look more finished and grounded, less like a straight commercial vehicle.
You pay your money and make your choices. No one is right, no one is wrong...

Serve no real purpose as far as I am concerned. I recently removed mine fitted by the previous owner. They were cheap open ended so corroded from the inside out. They also forced my foot outwards when stepping out - very irritating. There was also damage to the undertrays when they were fitted. Still looking to seal up the damaged holes where the brackets were fitted. Glad to be shot of them

What I don’t understand ..even if you do fit or don’t fit...Why don’t VW fit fixing points and precut outs on the plastic trim...they allow cut outs for tow bars...Tight Ar@&’s

Wot?!! And deny a stealer an opportunity to upsell their specialist fitting service?

I assumed they are "slide bars" as used in off-roading. If the vehicle gets grounded on a rock or boulder between axles then it allows the vehicle to slide over without damaging sills and underside. More authentic on a swamper but perhaps more useful on some of your ultra low riders.
