Servicing - VW dealer or local garage?

My 2019 T6 is asking for an inspection (I'm assuming it means a service). I've done 35,000 miles.

Do I have to take it to my inept VW van centre, or can I take it to my friendly local garage? What are the benefits or taking it to VW (if any)? I'm guessing the bulk of the service is an oil change, oil filter change and general look-over.

My 6.1 is asking too, I'm thinking local German specialist as I just don't trust vw dealers any more. They have done so much poor warranty work this year on my van

Mine goes in for its first service on 6th October to local VW Van centre in Stoke on Trent and it’s only Done 3500 miles, they say it needs interim service £240 .

An inspection is not a service. Some VW Van centres will do it for free and reset the mfd.

Your services are interim and main/full.

I didn’t think to try my local VW van centre when mine jut said inspection… you just hear so much negativity around main dealers. Instead I got ripped off by my friendly local mechanic!

So my van is saying "Inspection Now!" and my local VW van centre has text me saying "If you haven't already, don't forget to book in your T6 TRANSPORTER for a service now."

So is it an inspection or a service? How do I know what is due to be checked??

It's a visual inspection, a sceptic would say an opportunity for VW to find minor issues and offer expensive solutions.....

Our local mechanic is always in the pub, in the shop, at local events etc. and says hello. I'd trust him over any main dealer - I can't believe he'd rip off people he sees every day and relies on for work.

A good garage should look at service book/history and mileage before deciding. Then ask customer which they would like.
Fuel filters are good for 25-50k.
Air filters about 12-15k
Cabin filter 1yr/15k
Our t6s are supposedly 25k I personally don't go by this.

Our van had it’s first service today at 3400 miles, Oil change, filter change, and screw ( whatever that is ) health check and a total of £192, they had quoted me £240 so I’m quite happy with the bill.
The Van centre Stoke on Trent, very friendly staff and free drinks machine.

I have this too and my concern is the software. Earlier in the year I was going on a long trip so I had my van serviced at a non VW garage - German specialist, had done my Passat over the years. As part of the service they changed the oil. About 100 miles into my next journey up came the warning 'Oil level too high'. I was on my way to Ireland. Opening and shutting the hood reset it. In Ireland a local garage drained a cup from the oil. 100 miles later back came the warning. When I got back to the UK, I went back to the VW garage, and they said it was a software issue. They had it for an hour or so, and I haven't had the problem since.
Now I've got a service due. VW want to charge me £234 inc VAT for a 'health check and oil and oil filter change'. Or they are also offering £634 for this and a further main service when thats due - bargain! I don't really want to commit to that sort of money, but equally, if there's software that can f up a basic service then maybe I should...

I've got the service plan with VW, includes MOTs etc.

Took it into Manchester Van Centre for service and MOT and it failed it's MOT due to an issue with the drop links, being a main dealer they had the parts on the shelf and the tech stayed late to get the job done so I could have the van back same day.

Brilliant service as I couldn't afford another day off work waiting for the work to be done.

Does anyone have experience of Halfords for servicing their T6? I have a 2019 T6 that is asking for "inspection due" on the dashboard. Done 9,500 miles only. My local VW commercial van centre (Alan Day, North London) charges a LOT for their services so I'm looking for a reliable, local alternative. Can i trust Halfords to do a god job?

An Inspection is not a service. It's a visual check which some dealers will do free, some charge.
There is loads of info on the Forum about service routines , just have a good search.

I'm following the handbook (cryptic) service codes as in these photos. This vehicle has QI8 requirements and in this case it appears to need "oil change service" and "inspection".

Interesting that all the service requirements are not more clearly specified. They seem overcomplicated and not that clear. Also seems strange that the various VW commercial van centres I've called seem to each follow slightly different pricing structures, and some offer the "flexible service" while others only seem to follow a "fixed service" protocol.

Always best to book service via VW website, it always works out much cheaper. I take out the 2 services and MOT plan.
