Powered Sub- yes or no?

I'm thinking of installing a powered sub to add a little thump, my reasoning being, it will be cheaper than a amp and a full enclosed under seat sub. Am I wasting my cash and should I save some more pennies for the full works, or are they good enough?

Depends what you want. I have a Kenwood KSC-SW11 Underseat sub and for the money it's ok but I am looking to upgrade as I want something with better response. If you want something to offer a little more thud then things like
  • Eton UG USB 8
  • Sony XS-AW8
  • Kicker Hideaway HS10
These range from £240 to £400 and come with wiring kit and remote they can also take a hi input from the factory speakers if you haven't got an aftermarket headunit.

I know I want too, but new suspension comes first, will a powered sub suffice in the meantime?

If you want proper thumping bass you can't beat a proper sub set up but also have you done the basics like sound deadening

It's a new van, and yes I will be sound deadening and insulating all the appropriate areas.

Well as @T6ARF can verify if I where you do the suspension if that's more of a priority for you and then replace the door speakers and sound deaden and line the door properly. See what you think then and if it's not quite enough then add an Underseat sub.

Hope this helps

I installed a pioneer underseat sub and it made a big improvement to the sound. I’m guessing not to the same standard as a full upgrade but I’m very happy with it.
