Pop-Top Installers / Conversion Co in Scotland

Hello
I am looking for a converter preferably in Scotland for my transporter. The company I had arranged with have gone out of business. Wild campers in mull managed to squeeze in a roof for me. But too busy to do other stuff. Rhino install near preston are doing lpg tank, fresh water tank, heater and solar panel. But still need some to do insulation etc, instal bed, electrics, lighting, awning, furniture unit etc. Problem I'm finding is with a lot of companies they either sell a their version of a pre converted van or convert to their specification. But I want one built to my specs. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks

We used a small company in Aboyne (near Aberdeen), Aboyne Campervans. Not a huge company, just a guy on his own but he can make everything bespoke. We got our own units made just the way we wanted and (in my opinion), the quality is really good.

Our New Campervan... Only 600 days to go (hopefully).

This is our thread which shows our conversion from start to finish.
:)

If this is too far North then I can also recommend AJC conversions in Manchester. They might be able to make stuff to your specification but not sure as we were going with a generic conversion at that point. They had a really high quality to their work as well. I would have gone for them but in the end we went with a more local company. They have a facebook page with loads of pictures.

Small camper converstion company called adventure campers Scotland , there based in holytown ,not far from Glasgow , two brothers Colin and Ritchie , really good at what they do but can be busy

Hi folks. I’m the proud owner of my first T6 having downsized from a coachbuilt MH. I got a good deal (I think) on a 35000mls, Mojave Beige, 2018, Highline, T30, 150bhp with tailgate. Already converted by Nomad and was an ex-rental. It is in good nick and ready to go but I’d really like some exterior styling and I’m totally at a loss about where to start. For sure though, lowered by 40mm, new alloys at least. My main thing is the lack of DAB radio and Sat Nav. I’m retiring in January 2021 and hoping (restrictions permitted) to head over to Europe for 2/3 months. I’m in the Edinburgh area and I’ve had a look around for companies that can advise me and carry out the work – but I’m not coming up with much. Could any of you guys point me in the right direction? Apologies in advance if this has been asked before – but I just feel like a rabbit in the headlights trying to find a decent expert that can help me out. Many thanks. Gordon

Hi Gordon, what sort of exterior styling are you looking for? It could be that the bits you are looking for may be bolt on/bolt off which most of your local garages could help you with. Same goes for the suspension really, you might end up ordering the parts, say springs, and have a local garage fit for you.

Can't help of companies near you i'm afraid.

Surprised it doesn't have DAB as I thought this was pretty much standard, especially given its a high line.. For audio have a look at Skipton Car Radio, they have a great reputation.

All the other parts etc..

Travelin-Lite
Transporter HQ
Vanstyle
Chilli Jam Vans

There's lots of places to choose from plus I'm sure between everyone on here someone will have the exact parts you'll be looking at so can review for you.

Good luck

There is Jerba in North Berwick not far from you.

We hired a van from them to tour the NC500 before we bought our own van. We were impressed with their quality, they were just too far from our home for using them to convert our own van.

They offer both standard side conversion layouts as well as rear conversions.

We opted for a rear conversion after hiring a van with that layout from them

Jerba are booked up to August 2021 when I spoke to them 2 weeks ago about just fitting a pop top. We quite liked them and they have been quick to respond to all enquires but they are obviously very popular so you won't get a slot with them anytime soon.

Calder campers based in Livingston seem good, not spoken to them directly but did view one of their vans being sold second hand in Glasgow. Seemed like a well built and thought out van.

Wee camper co in Carluke aware nice guys. Rented a van earlier this year from them. Van itself was a bit sparse design but it was a rental. I've asked them for a quote on my specification but am still waiting for this

Tartan Campers near Kilmarnock I've approached for a quote also but never received it. They offered a visit to their workshop to see a near completed van. Was supposed to be two weeks ago but they went on holiday, pencilled in for this weekend again but not heard back.

Direct campers in clydebank had rear design kitchens we liked but have nothing at all in stock for us to look at to see the quality of their work.

There's is also Fife campers - only heard of them via someone else and not approached them.

These are a few of the 'local' ones I've looked into around glasgow but I'm also looking at UK wide now.

Hello Gordon, I've found that central Scotland is poorly served with available campervan specialists, in general those that are out there are booked up. It's a hassle to be honest.
If you're wanting DAB and Satnav you don't need anyone with campervans on their CV, a good auto electrician should be able to help. I did some research, bought the parts and got a normal garage to do a basic suspension improvement, although I think you may be looking for more than that. I added subtle decals along the side, changed the headlights and went black badge and grill on the front.
For other work ACLS come to mind as they do solar panels, heaters and LPG tanks - although their waiting list is lengthening you'll get a good idea of the current wait on their website. I've emailed several of the well known companies and they haven't got back to me, to be honest why bother with piecemeal work when you can take on the full conversion jobs? Geekgrimmy above has listed most of the well known companies, all I'd add is RockinVans who are outside Kilmarnock - they've done work for me a couple of years ago but didn't appear to have any time to do work beyond their conversions last I called.
I've never been hands on with my cars but am becoming increasingly so with the van, it's frustrating at times but rewarding, and certainly cheaper. You also end up learning a lot and knowing how the stuff in your van works. Every small job adds to your knowledge.

When all's done and dusted you end up asking questions on here and hoping somebody can help. Good luck.

One of my workmates got a van converted by Calder recently. They did a nice enough job, but even taking into account COVID, the delays in receiving the van were pretty substantial. They may have too much work on their books.

Big thumbs up for Jerba who did my old T5 conversion.

Thanks very much for all the responses to my questions. You've all been really helpful. I have contacted various companies and like many of you had little or no responses. However, Woohoo campers in Tillicoutry have advised they can help me source the parts I'm after. I've approached my regular garage that services my care and they are happy to do do the work. So all good so far. Thanks again for all the solid advice so far - I'm sure I'll be back. Gordon

Hi, only just joined the forum. Collected my first T6 campervan from a guy in Alloa near Stirling yesterday, he does top class conversions.

Hey would you mind passing the guys details on. I’m looking to put an extra couple of seats and a few extra bits into my T6 Kombi - cheers

All - I’m not looking for a full conversation just adding 2 x single seats into the back of my Kombi. Something similar to attached with integrated seatbelts and easy to remove. Anyone recommend a fitter near Edinburgh/Central belt area that could help? Thanks

Hi.

Can anyone recommend a pop top installer in Scotland?

I’m think about either Skyline or Austops.

RKN Campers, Clouds Campers and Campervamping are all approved Austops fitters but I can find very little about them online.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Good question, also looking for options in Scotland. NorthView Customs fit Skyline, but would like to hear first hand experience/feedback.
