Oil Service Alert

Had oil service alert light up on dash at 12k/18 month old. Told by Heritage Bristol VW that this is not right and quite common and to pop in and have the alert reset.

Checked dip stick and plenty oil.

Anyone else had this??

Why would they say that!?! they do just say the first thing that comes into their heads sometimes...
If you are on a time and distance regime that might be correct.
If you are on long-life then it can come on anytime depending on the oil quality as measured by a sensor.

I had mine switched to t&D as I wanted more frequent oil changes.
If you are going to the trouble of going in, then why not have an oil change?
