My Other Vw's

T6 Legend
In chronological order...

My first VW was a Passat Estate 115 hp 1 .9 PD. It was my first Dad car after the birth of my first son and I loved it. I think a paid a grand for it and it was a solid investment and gave me the VW bug. Previously I'd had a couple of Pug 306's, an Escort and a Laguna and whilst they were good they didn't compare in my mind to the quality of my Passat. I can't find a picture of this one but I'll update the thread if and when I do.

With a bit of trepidation I traded the Passat in for my first Caravelle; a 2003 130hp 2.5 TDI which was Pendled to great effect. It was a belting vehicle and I thoroughly enjoyed my ownership of it, including some mild mods such as painting the wheels and headlight interior. Beautiful colour too.

We bought a house and 'thought' we didn't need the Caravelle anymore so sold it for 700 quid less than I'd paid for it 4 years and 35,000 miles earlier. There isn't many vehicles that hold their value like that!

I bought a VW Touran 140 2.0 TDI for my family to use whilst I was away during the week. Another lovely machine but the first trip to France in it made me pine for another van. Her is a pic, all loaded up, just before we set off to France.

I also got myself a VW Golf 140 2.0 TDI to commute in. I loved this car, absolutely amazing to drive and was sad to see it go when moving to Naples. This got me into some refinements which I'd never had but really enjoyed such as Cruise Control, Climate Control, Leather upholstery and Bluetooth connections. I also painted the wheels and light interior black on this.

I was still missing the utility of the Caravelle though so, I traded the Touran in in a against a 2.5 130 facelifted kombi, which I spent a fair wad of cash on refining and modding. I got this remapped by RH Tuning, expecting the same excellent results I got from Pendle but was disappointed, all the power came in above 2000 revs so you had to drive it like you stole it to get any benefit, which is unbecoming of a diesel engine! It was a looker alright but my family & I missed the refinement of a car which I got with the Caravelle. It had started life a very basic Startline, no A/C, tape cassette player etc.

I loved the build process and upgrading but we decided to sell and buy a T6 Caravelle, which is where I find myself now. My wife also has a lovely Tiguan R-Line.

Edit: The Tiguan...

Now I only wish I'd bought a blue T6 with 4Mo and a sunroof! Maybe next time...

Needless to say I am sold on the VW brand. Some say that they are boring but I'd call that understated style. I've driven, and been ferried around in other brands of cars and they always look too flash or convoluted for my tastes. VW's, for me at least, just work.

Nice Scirocco.
I've owned over 20 VW's previously. Amongst them a Mk I Mars Red 1.8 Gti, Mk II Oak Green Gti, and a couple of Mk II Caddys.
But the majority of them were pre '71 air-cooleds, I've had to reduce the fleet down to these two currently.

Very cool motors there guys. Thanks for sharing. @sparkywig is the top one a MkII Caddy? Never seen one before! Similar colour to my first Passat too.

Great post @Lukavell, I don’t think there’s been a better colour than the raven blue on that caravelle.

I stared off with Vauxhall’s, firstly a Corsa C 1.0, then an Astra J before I got the Transporter bug. I bought my T5 which had a camper conversion done by the previous owner, it was a great van with the 1.9tdi pd engine and a Pendle map. At this point it was only vehicle and getting a bit long in the tooth for me driving it to work every day. Here’s a few pics of it over the years...

Next came the T6 and the T5 went off with its new owners to Northumberland. I’ve kept in touch with them and I get the occasional WhatsApp pic of the van. It’s since had a pop top fitted, and still going strong.

Here’s the T6 after 18 months of ownership..

This little beauty will hopefully be parked up next to the t6 sometime next week. Taken ages to find a decent one that hasn't been messed about with and within budget. Comes with a spare 1.8 gti engine/gearbox so that might get slotted in at some point. Happy days, now got 2 vw commercials that can take turns draining my wallet........

This one started it for me, my mum and dads 73 Westfalia, this was taken mid 80’s and had already had the usual places touched up. Rover hubcaps, and the front one was was from something else welded on with VW painted as ppl kept nicking the proper one!

It was hanging but made us smile, (cost me £100+ another £90 for a gearbox). It came back from Cornwall one year on a low loader.

We managed to get our 3 bugs to a Canford Classics years ago, my wife owned the newbie and 74 bugs. We built the Herbie for our wedding.

The lemon yellow newbie got moved on as it was quite literally a lemon. The blue one is now silver and in a million bits, but the love bug is still all together in Monte Carlo guise.
