In this picture, the flange bracket that bolt 5 goes through floats free of the main cooler unit, infact it is free of that frame all the way around. That must be what has sheared off, the diagram shows those flanges as part of the main cooler unit, but in my case they appear to be free to move.

All sorted now, the garage replaced the charge cooler with the updated version and associated pipework, so I now have the charge cooler in post #21 and no more leaking coolant.

when they removed the old cooler they found the mounts had sheared off the bottom which allowed it to move about but I don’t have photos of it.

Hello

I purchased a 2012 180 sportline DSG with 100k. The expansion bottle looses water and the temp gauge goes into red. If I drive it steady then the temp is 90 however if I drive it slightly harder then the gauge goes into red and when I slow slightly then the gauge returns to 90. The water level reduces each time and appears to be pushed out the bleed hole on top of the expansion bottle as if it’s under pressure.
I contacted VW and was told it needed a diagnosis check £100 plus VAT. It has had a new cambelt, water pump, thermostat to see if it was water pump or thermostat but it continued.
I've stripped front end off to start process of illumination. EGR cooler/DSG gearbox cooler and so on but it appears it’s a design fault and VW will not take responsibility. I’ve emailed The One Show with this issue to see if it’s a story they would be interested in. If they get back in Touch it would be good to give evidence of other year issues and hold VW to account.

Not a T6, and sounds like a blown head gasket anyway.

Take it to any garage and ask them to "sniff test the coolant" for exhaust gasses.

I have a 204 DSG T6 and been losing power and having to top up the coolant every couple of weeks, got 84000 miles on the clock, it’s a 2016, 66 plate and I do 2000 miles a month on average. I can see water by the egr cooler so looks like I’ll have to swap it out!

For those that have done it, how hard is it, is there a gasket and how long did it take? Cheers

In another thread I posted that they replaced the EGR. Coolant came back on again this time the charge air cooler was replaced.
So after the first two visits a third was required this time the cylinder head was replaced. Apparently it's a know issue and has been redesigned since mine was new 2016. This has resolved the problem once and for all. I suspect it was the issue all along, thankfully I had the extra two year VW warranty. They just trace the water and replace a piece at a time and then don't test again. Seems like a way to get more money but she is back to normal running.

Hi to all in this Thread
I have a T32 or T6 2016 kombe
At the moment it is in VW dealers in mijas spain under going repairs.
I had noticed oil drips under the van were ever I park up and was getting worried about it so i gave SAFA VW dealership a call and the van is there I have been told that there is oil in the header tank and been giving a list of thing needed for the repairs my spanish is not that good but with some help I think they are going to replace the coolant radiator oil filter housing and all part associated with it.
engine oil sump plug and washer and purge the coolant system
I can only ashume that the oil has got in though a bad seal on oil filter assembly.
has any one else had this problem in the past or similar.
any help would be very welcome
Thanks

If you have oil in your header tank I can't see the relevance of changing your coolant radiator, however if you have a coolant leak as a separate problem, that may be necessary.
The oil leak could be linked to the sump plug / washer and or the oil filter housing.
I'm not sure from what you say, how they intend to deal with the problem of oil in the coolant, I can't see how oil can enter the cooling system via the oil filter assembly, it is more commonly caused by a defective head gasket.
Looking on the brighter side, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather have to wait around for my van to be fixed than Mijas!

If the coolant radiator is contaminated with oil it will reduce heat transfer. it can be flushed with a degreaser and re-used unless there is another reason for renewal.

There have been issues with the seal of the oil cooler allowing oil to get into the coolant.

Thanks for the comments
I will have to wait until Monday and find out from the garage what is being repaired
or replaced

Interesting read this, mine is currently under investigation for the loss of coolant after it's just had the EGR link pipe (split) and valve changed. Still don't have it back yet though.

I was considering buying a 204 2016 R6. I've noticed on the invoices with the vehicle it has a coolant leak, which I have confirmed with previous keeper who also said it was using oil. What is the cost of a replacement cylinder head?

There are plenty of vans to choose from, why would you want to take the risk especially as you are assuming it’s caused by a defective cylinder head.
Best place to get quotes is from VW and a VW specialist, VW will be much higher.

Possibly / probably two separate issues, did he say how much oil it was using? Worst case scenario it needs a new engine.
I'd walk away, that van might just be your worst nightmare.

I was considering making a silly offer and do the work, but I think you are both right otherwise I risk getting my fingers burnt!

Hi I wondered if any one could offer some advise, my engine coolant light came on so topped up. Few weeks later back on after further inspection and reading previous
Experience I’ve traced the proximity of the leak but really difficult to get to to check hoses for splits, the leak looks like it’s running on top of the oil cooler but space is so tight. Does anyone have any experience
With how to get to the hoses to change inspect. Thanks in advance
