Leisure battery charging when van not in use.

Well which one?
I need it to be fully automatic, so when I plug in the hook up that’s it, I don’t want to have it on display or have to rummage it in cupboard to to turn the thing on or to the right settings.
All suggestions are welcome, I’m not having much luck in my search.
Cheers.

Have a quick look here...

Victron. Noco. Ctek are well known brands.

I've got the Victron Energy 12V/15A in my van, one side is plugged into the 240v outlet in the van and the output into the house battery, whenever the van is plugged into external power the Victron turns on and automatically starts charging the house battery.

Thanks for your replies. They all seem to have a mode switch or even an on off switch, I’m after some thing that turns on itself and is fully automatic when it senses a 240volt feed, with no operation from myself.

Now this might be a complete waste of time but my converted camper has one of these fitted which controls all the 12v lights, water pump, fridge and 240v plugs
it also has an in built charger and when connected to the hookup it turns on to charge the battery and it regulates the charge as consumer units are used (fridge, pumps etc) to keep the battery fully charged and everything running.
when parked up at home, on hook up, it drops to a maintenance charge to keep the battery topped up.
so not really just a charger but a whole system but it might suit?
it does have an off/on switch but just leave it on permanently and it sorts itself out as and when a hook up is used. Fully automatic you do nothing.....

We have a Victron that works exactly like you want. Speak to @travelvolts

It’s a Victron IP65 12/10 Blue smart

The Victron will do this. Once you set it to battery type etc the first time you use it, it remembers the settings so next time it is powered up it carries on as before. It also has a Bluetooth interface so if you do need to change the settings or look at how the charging is progressing you can do so without having to get to the charger

I have the IP65 12/15 Blue Smart. The other chargers in the range will work the same way

Many thanks Big.mac and Pete.C that seems to fit the bill spot on the blurb about these is a bit vague so thought it would need to be set up each time.
Nigel W the Sargent Unit is the same as I’ve had before and is very under powered change wise and will not give a battery a 100% charge.

Again many thanks everyone as personal reviews are better than a sales pitch every time.

Victron. Noco. Ctek are well known brands and will all start automatically when powered up and detect a battery.

I went the A different route. I used the CTEK 5.0 mainly because I already had it kicking around the garage. I then use the CTEK battery monitor just to check on the phone the battery level. I used some 2 strip sticky back Velcro to mount it to the top so I could see it and I was running out of room under there!

seems to work fine when I hook up it starts charging and I just forget about it. I can only comment on what I’ve got.

Hi. Sorry for asking what may seem like a question which has and obvious answer. I’ve just purchased a T6 with the simple split charger.

I’m looking to use the EHU to charge the leisure battery.

Can I:
1. purchase the Victor IP65 12/15. Is it a case of cutting off the three pin mains plug of the Victron, hard wiring to the 240v consumer unit, then connect to the battery?
2. Is it then possible to continue to use the 12v equipment as normal While the battery is being charged?

Yes possibly, but remember correct 240v fusing for saftey. (The charger fuse may only be 3A or 5A on the mains plug)

Or just run a single or double socket off the consumer unit then run the charger off that

I did just that, and emailed Victron to ask if cutting the plug off will affect the warranty. 'No it will not' they say!

Thanks Dell. I should have thought of that!!!

Now, while this is charging, do I have to remove the connections to the other equipment in the van?

Can i use a ‘normal‘ car charger, or a trickle charger, or either, or something different?

- no just connect up and let it do its thing. no need to disconnect anything.

- stick with the Victron 12/15 smart charger, it will deal with everything for you.

You shoiuld stick with a reputable brand smart charger that has all the saftey featuyres and will smart charge the leisure electrics.

just hook up to EHU while parked and go.

Got anymore info or some pics of your " T6 with the simple split charger." . . . . im thinking you may need to upgrade this to a DC-DC charger.
