Home CCTV kits

I’ve got a 4 camera Dahua system, I ran the cat 5’s and then got a company in to do the rest, circa £750 I think.

Daylight they can be run at 4K, but I tend to only have 2 at 4K and 2 at 1080p.

Nightime is poor, but I have flood lights all around the outside and when they come on it’s daylight again.

Plus I have 2 hungry dogs and sleep next to a well used pickaxe handle.

I've recently been researching CCTV in anticipation of the arrival of my van - although I've been told this week that due to lockdown and furlough, my conversion date has gone back until September:oops: Still, with scrotes knicking bikes from sheds and even setting light to cars parked on driveways, I'm feeling that a deterrent is required. I was considering Swann system but found a review on YouTube comparing this ReoLink 4 system to two others (Swann and Amcrest) and the ReoLink came out on top - as well as being cheaper. 4K 8MP cameras, continuous recording or programmable motion/IR sensing, remote viewing via Internet.View attachment 72851 I know what I'll be doing next weekend!
Just bought this so fingers crossed it's ok.

I have three Hikvision Cameras and the 8 port NVR. NVR is a tad noisy though with the cooling fans running.
You can view the cams on your phone when its all set up using Hik-Connect app. Think there is another link for the app as Hikvision is a part of Huawei so no longer on the playstore but the below site has all the info.
This site has loads of info and a forum you can check out.
Are the Hikvision cameras any good at night?

This is the Hikvision cams, both are DS-2CD2é55FW-I 5MP 4mm. The sun is on the front one on this photo.20200606210354593_8062c0b2d57342e885dea08abbfb3256_726325480.jpg20200606210320277_1915da6fa2034f1da6aebb5ec4416e36_726325480.jpg

Looking out the window and the light has almost gone but still getting a good image.20200606220027939_1915da6fa2034f1da6aebb5ec4416e36_726325480.jpg

I have Hikvision Darkfighter cameras and would recommend them. As others have said, they do switch to B&W with IR at night but they will do colour if the ambient light is bright enough.
They also now do ColorVu cameras which will do a 24/7 colour image but it uses a little white LED spotlight at night...
These show mine at midnight last night.

My Darkfighter is still in colour right now until the streetlight goes into dim mode at 00:30 when it will flick to IR and B&W

Surely when there’s no light all cameras will display in black and white with infrared.

Configurable. You can make it stay in day mode but you wouldn’t see much if its pitch black.
I have 2 out the front with one set to be permanently in day mode so that if anything sus is going on I get a chance of seeing the true colours of clothing, vehicles etc. The new LED street lights help a lot nowadays.

Good idea. I might have a bit of a play around with this tonight, I’ve just let it auto switch but there is a streetlight on until about 12 so it will be interested to see what it can capture in colour

Our street lights turn off at 23.00 ( edit - 23.30) - don't yours turn off at all?

Ours don't, on all night.
I think the only thing I would like is a camera that follows objects as they move and zooms in to get better images, like the Hikvision DS-2DE4A425IW-DE, but all the retailers are hiding their prices.

Hikvision stopped all retail sales of their so-called professional range. I purchased my cameras before this. You now have to be a pro installer to get hold of them, that's why you can't see prices on most sites, you have to be registered as a pro. There is another range you can buy, check the link I posted earlier in the thread. You may be able to get them on fleabay but the firmware could be different as they will probably be grey imports.

They don’t go out, they dim to half brightness between 00:30 an 05:30 in winter and now in the summer they just go off about 04:30

Don't think ours go out or dim, they changed them all for LEDs. May put the alarm on for 2:30ish just to have a look, or will look if I have to get up for a Jimmy.
